Junior Civil Designer, Urban Development Supervisor

Role description:
As a junior civil designer, you will have an extensive and varied role. You will work on integrated urban development projects, where you will tackle the entire design together with direct colleagues and design leaders. You will link all technical disciplines together, thereby shaping the city of tomorrow. In your role, you are also co-responsible for the execution of your projects; therefore, you will regularly be found as a supervisor at beautiful locations. Your main activities are:

• You will prepare the design together with the design team, consisting of specialists and designers
• Throughout the entire design process, from sketch design to final design, you will support the preparation of a contract (RAW, UAV-gc).
• You collect all necessary (technical) information and requirements. To do this, you know how to reach the right people (sometimes under necessary time pressure).
• You visit the location for the correct technical execution and the quality assessment of the contractor's work.
• You translate the client's requirements into an executable design, working both in the office and on-site.
• You direct, in English, the drafters in our Global Excellence Center in Romania and work closely with them.

Project examples:
Katwijk - New residential development area Valkenhorst; Over the next 15 years, a new residential area, Valkenhorst, will rise on the former Valkenburg airport in Katwijk. A total of over 5,000 homes and social and cultural facilities will be built here. The neighborhood will be energy-neutral, and new sustainable innovations will be extensively applied in this project. As an advisor to the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf, Arcadis is creating the complete public space layout plan for this residential development area.

Rijswijk - New residential development area RijswijkBuiten; Arcadis provides integrated advice and engineering in the field of making the area ready for construction and habitation. They form the basis for optimal area development. Thanks in part to this central management during the construction readiness phase and the contract management for execution, up to 300 homes can be realized annually according to schedule until completion in 2026.

Roosendaal - area development de Bulkenaarr; "an attractive and easily accessible green buffer between the residential area and the hospital". In addition to the civil engineering implementation, Arcadis has prepared an SSK estimate for the entire area development, consisting of a new access road with a connection to the highway and a structural covering of a pipeline corridor of 600 m2, construction of a connecting road with under-tunneling of the railway, and the development of a healthcare landscape. A beautiful integrated task that was worked on with a broad team.

In short, a versatile role within an engaging environment, where you can grow into a Civil Engineering Design Leader or Civil Engineering Project Manager. Additionally, Arcadis is a leader in digitalization, and you can plug into that and further develop yourself. Your location is Rotterdam or Amsterdam, but in addition, working from home occasionally is also an option.

Your advisory group uses a multidisciplinary approach in both the public and private sectors to ensure that urban developments are striking, economically efficient, and sustainable. Climate adaptation, the energy transition, and digital innovation are included in this. Clients include municipalities, provinces, developers, educational and healthcare institutions, and industry. Think of (re)development of locations in built-up environments, reconstructions of roads, expansion locations for industrial estates, or adjustments to industrial sites. From composed project teams, including designers and specialists, work is done on initiating, designing, tendering, and supervising civil works.

Qualifications & Experience:
As a junior civil designer, you are enthusiastic and driven. You are motivated to further develop yourself. You possess good communication skills, substantive knowledge of Civil/Infra projects, and good organizational qualities. With a practical attitude, you know how to quickly master processes. You are a team player and a problem solver.
