To ensure our high quality standards, we are looking for candidates with:
A master's degree in urban planning, urban design, and/or (urban) architecture from a recognized university
Approx. 3 years of relevant work experience
Experience in multidisciplinary project environments and an affinity for digital and data-driven design approaches
Ability to contribute to design processes with increasing independence, supported by strong oral, written, and visual communication skills
Experience with or affinity for master planning, feasibility studies, and massing studies
Good knowledge of relevant tools and methods, such as CAD and parametric design software (AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper), GIS tools (ArcGIS), and graphic software (Adobe Suite)
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
Experience with Python or other scripting tools is a plus
Strong organizational, analytical, and collaborative skills, with a proactive and responsible attitude
Affinity with or experience in MIRT projects, station areas, or infrastructure-driven developments is a plus
Experience with tender or proposal processes is an advantage
Excellent command of Dutch and English (both oral and written)
A portfolio demonstrating your contribution and role in projects
Registration in the Architectenregister or similar register is a plus
Junior Urban Designer / Planner
Arup is looking for a Junior Urban Designer / Planner for the Cities, Planning & Design team in Amsterdam. We are looking for a candidate who shares our ambition for sustainable development and has an affinity for digital and data-driven design methods.
You will work on projects where spatial development, mobility, and infrastructure converge, including MIRT studies, station area developments, and complex urban transformations. You will work at various scales—from master planning to feasibility and massing studies—and work closely within multidisciplinary teams, including urban physics, digital, and landscape specialists, to develop clear and future-proof urban solutions.

As an Urban Designer / Planner at Arup, you will:
Contribute to master plans, feasibility studies, and massing studies for various urban projects
Work on MIRT studies and projects where mobility and infrastructure are integrated
Support station area developments and complex area transformations
Collaborate with urban physics, digital, and landscape specialists on integrated solutions
Translate analyses into clear spatial proposals at various scales
Contribute to project coordination and multidisciplinary collaboration
Prepare high-quality outputs, such as reports, analyses, diagrams, maps, and presentations
Contribute to proposals and tender processes
