HBO/WO-stage Operational Group Powder production: Optimization of communication standards

At Abbott, we believe that effective communication is essential for achieving operational objectives and making the right decisions. Within the Operational Group Powder (OG), various disciplines work together with production and senior management. To further strengthen this collaboration, we are looking for an enthusiastic intern who will make a significant contribution to professionalizing and standardizing the internal communication and reporting structure.

During this internship, you will investigate how information is currently shared within the Operational Group and between the various stakeholders. You will map out communication processes, information needs, and bottlenecks, and translate these into a clear and future-proof communication structure.

In addition, you will develop a dashboard with relevant KPIs and metrics to provide insight into the progress of important operational processes. In doing so, you will work closely with employees from the Operational Group, production, and senior management. The goal is to arrive at a uniform way of communicating, reporting, and managing performance.

During this internship, you will work on the following objectives:

• Analyzing current communication flows and information needs
• Defining and implementing relevant KPIs and performance indicators for key Operational Group processes.
• Developing a uniform communication standard for reports to production and senior management.
• Designing a clear dashboard for monitoring and communicating results and performance.
• Setting up a communication structure at weekly, monthly, and quarterly levels, including responsibilities, target audiences, and communication moments.
• Introducing a fixed way of working for face-to-face communication, such as periodic performance reviews and consultation structures.
• Securing the new way of working so that it can be applied sustainably.

During this internship, you will be given the space to conduct independent research while simultaneously working closely with various stakeholders within the organization. You will collect information through interviews, observations, and data analysis and map out the current situation.

Subsequently, you will develop an improvement plan featuring communication standards, KPIs, and dashboards. In collaboration with the departments involved, you will test the proposed improvements and ensure that the new communication structure is practically feasible and future-proof.

At the end of the internship, the Operational Group will possess an improvement plan for a dashboard, clear communication standards, and a secured consultation and reporting structure that contributes to transparency, collaboration, and effective decision-making.

At Abbott, during your internship, you will be guided by the content supervisor of the department where you will be interning. Additionally, you will receive a process supervisor, who will help you manage your internship project via a management tool. We use the DMAIC structure for this, but if your degree program requires a different structure, we can also utilize that.

By having two supervisors for content and structure, you will learn how to deal with various stakeholders, how project management works, and how to monitor the progress of a project. Every week, you will participate in a student meeting where all interns come together to exchange experiences, help each other, and learn from one another.
