HBO/WO-stage Validation: Gap analysis Validation processes & Quality optimization program

• HBO or WO in Food Technology, Quality Assurance, Food Science, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering Management, or a comparable field of study.

At Abbott Nutrition (AN), quality and food safety are central, especially since our products are used worldwide for vulnerable target groups. During this internship, you will work on strengthening QA validation processes and quality assurance within our organization. You will perform a gap analysis on existing validation procedures and develop an improvement program. In doing so, you will deal with quality standards such as HACCP/FSSC 22000, risk assessments, corrective and preventive actions, and the assessment of Good Documentation Practices (GDP) in documentation. You will collect information via our documentation system and through conversations with various stakeholders.

During this internship, you will have the opportunity to work closely with experienced Validation Engineers and actively participate in risk assessments, such as FMEA sessions. Additionally, you will support the execution of validation protocols in our production environment and gain valuable practical experience within the validation process. You will not only make an operational contribution to the department but also play an important role in realizing strategic quality improvements. Based on the outcomes of your gap analysis, you will develop improvement initiatives and support their implementation, so that validation processes are further optimized and secured within the organization.

• Performing a Gap analysis on validation processes and identifying areas for improvement.

• Collaborating on potential quick wins: for example, setting up training materials and GDP improvements.

The project will be carried out in several phases:

• Validation process analysis
  • Review of performed validations based on OPRPs (Operational Prerequisite Programs) and CCPs (Critical Control Points).
  • Check for completeness of protocols and CCP definitions.
  • Gap analysis relative to existing procedures.
• Audit deviations & Historical Review
  • Analysis of historical records and deviations.
  • Categorization of root causes.
  • Proposal for a structural improvement program.
• QA Processes & Optimization
  • Development of an approval checklist for key stakeholders.
  • Research into optimization of validation workflows.
  • Proposal for standardization of documentation (GDP) and streamlining of HACCP.

The results and recommendations will be recorded in a report and presented to stakeholders. Personal initiative and ideas are highly valued.

At Abbott, during your internship, you will be guided by the technical supervisor of the department where you will be interning. Additionally, you will receive a process supervisor, who will help you manage your internship project via a management tool. We use the DMAIC structure for this, but if your education requires a different structure, we can also implement that. By having 2 supervisors for content and structure, you learn how to deal with various stakeholders and how project management works, and together we monitor the progress of your project. Every week you will participate in a student meeting, where all interns come together to help each other, learn from each other, and for the social aspect! In short, you are not alone during your internship at Abbott!
