The word says it all: skilled tradesperson. In this role, you are—or we will train you to become—a skilled tradesperson at Smits Neuchâtel. This is because no training exists for it yet, as we deliver a unique product: namely, pouring asphalt for roofs. Functional roofs (parking roofs) that can take a beating. They are used to park cars on, drive over, or serve as an extra strong protective layer for the roofing. Are you a unique person looking for a unique job where you have a different view every day? Experience for this is not required.
For this job, you must at least be an early bird, because you start with us at 07:00 AM on location. Coincidentally, you'll stop by the warehouse this morning to pick up materials, which means waking up peacefully in your own work van. It's so nice that you can decide for yourself what kind of music you play 😉
Today you are working on a project that lasts a few weeks, so there is a site hut where you can get started and have a cup of coffee. Your teammates are already there and you discuss the day. The crew consists of 4 people, where everyone has their own task. Over the past few days, you have been busy applying the roofing. Today, you start with the construction of the parking deck consisting of pouring asphalt.
The pouring asphalt process consists of several steps. The truck with pouring asphalt at over 200 degrees is already driving up, so that's the signal for you to leave the site hut. You step onto a dumper; this is a machine in which you tap 1.5 tons of pouring asphalt and transport it to the roof. Next, your colleague comes walking towards you with a tipping trolley. With the tipping trolley, you bring the pouring asphalt to the spreader. From there, the pouring asphalt is distributed and the spreader starts spreading the pouring asphalt into a flat base layer. As the final part of the process, another colleague sprinkles a grit layer over the smooth, warm pouring asphalt floor. This layer ensures the floor gets grip. Because this parking deck needs a sturdy base, you will apply 3 layers for this project.
The projects we do consist of large and small tasks in both new construction, renovation, and maintenance projects. On large projects such as the Erasmus MC (hospital), you are working at 1 location for several weeks. Other jobs are smaller and you finish them in 1 day. No roof is the same, and therefore the view is different every time. You might be in Groningen one moment and in Utrecht the next. What remains the same, however, is your team. Together, you build the user-friendliness and safety of buildings in the Netherlands.
You will be guided by our masters who have an enormous amount of knowledge, know what hard work is, and are willing to train you to become a skilled tradesperson. Successes are celebrated together, but you will also hear it if you make a mistake. Because colleagues have worked together for a long time and are honest and direct. But we also always say: making mistakes is allowed, but learning from them is a must. Everyone learned this trade from a master at some point. Who knows, maybe you will be our next master.
As a person, you are a hard worker and have a flexible mindset. You love freedom and working outdoors. You are precise and enjoy working in a team. Working together towards a good end result. Furthermore;
You love getting up early and working outside;
You are available full-time;
You possess a driving license B;
You enjoy working all over the Netherlands. If it is too far to drive, you can stay overnight in a hotel. All costs are paid by us.
With us, as an employee, you get the space to learn and to grow. Together we work on our ambitions. We offer you;
An internal training to become a functional roof specialist;
A full-time position for 40 hours per week;
A full-time salary of up to € 3,200 gross, paid out in 13 periods every 4 weeks;
Good employment conditions, built up from employment conditions in accordance with CAO Bouw & Infra;
25 vacation days and 15 roster-free days based on full-time employment.
You also get your own company vehicle with a fuel card.
