Pay & benefits

What you'll get

  • An internal training to become an independent machinist. Our experienced machinists are ready to train you;

  • A full-time position for 40 hours per week;

  • A full-time salary starting from €3000,- gross, paid out in 13 periods every 4 weeks;

  • 25 vacation days and 16 roster-free days according to Gebr. Van Kessel CAO and a good pension scheme with an employer contribution;

  • You also receive a company vehicle with a fuel card.

The role

Man and machine, we can no longer do without each other. At Gebr. van Kessel, we have been aware of this for a long time, which is why we have many types of machines in the field of horizontal drainage. We are also continuing to invest in our machine fleet and are currently busy building a second 8-meter deep excavator. But......a machine without a person is nothing more than a very expensive steel device that stands still. This is why we are looking for you! Experience with these types of machines is not required.

What you'll do

For this job, you must at least be an early bird, because you start with us at 07:00 AM on location. Depending on the job, you help the transporter with loading the machine at our company in Buren and then drive to the project location. But it can also be that your machine is loaded at the end of the day and you then drive directly to the project the next day. Together with the work planner and the transporter, you will look at what the best solution is. We always work with a weekly schedule where, of course, consideration is also given to everyone's private life.

As a drainage machinist, you work together with a drainage worker who stands next to the machine and guides it. Together, you ensure that the horizontal drainage systems are installed in the ground. Drainage systems ensure the discharge of groundwater and the supply of surface water. These systems occur in various types of industries, which means you are also working in different locations every time. So, one time you are standing in the middle of the polder with only the birds for company, and the next moment you are standing on the Maasvlakte among the industry, looking out over the North Sea.

We actually work about 50% for the construction, infra, and industry sectors. These are often short-term drainage systems used during the construction of excavation pits for the building of basements, offices, and houses, or for the construction of tunnels, roads, and viaducts. In this process, a soil investigation is carried out beforehand, so you know what kind of soil you will be dealing with, and you receive a working drawing stating where the cables and pipes are located in the ground.

The other 50% we work for the agricultural sector, where you install drainage systems for, for example, the next 30 years, so that gardeners, arable farmers, and/or livestock farmers can use their agricultural land optimally. In this case, there is less possibility for work preparation and/or soil investigation, and you will learn a lot based on experience.

Our machine fleet is large and varied. For example, we have machines that can install drainage systems from 2 meters to 8 meters deep. In addition to installing drainage systems, we also focus on applying settlement acceleration measures (IFCO method) and the installation of foil screens and water-permeable screens (water safety market).

Your qualities

As a person, you are flexibly minded, love freedom, and working in the fresh air. You have a great sense of responsibility, because you sometimes also have to make decisions that you cannot consult with a colleague. Furthermore, you get a kick out of being able to work with different types of machines in unique places. Furthermore;

  • Do you have experience driving large machines such as agricultural machinery, a truck, or heavy equipment from the port;

  • Do you have technical insight, because you also occasionally help in the workshop with minor maintenance;

  • Are you in possession of a B driver's license;

  • Are you willing to start from Buren (Gelderland) a number of times per week;

  • Are you available full-time.

Do you have experience? Then of course you are always more than welcome.

With us, as an employee, you get the space to take initiative and to grow. Together we work on our ambitions. As an (incoming) drainage machinist, we offer you;
