The role
Do you want to not only learn how training programs are developed, but also investigate how they can be improved? Are you interested in learning and development, didactics, innovation, and the influence of AI on education and assessment? Then we have an interesting internship for you within our Training & Advice cluster.
Within The Safety Network, Inprevo, Jonkman Opleidingen, and Apply Opleidingen & Advies each work from their own expertise toward the same goal: teaching people to work more safely. From practical BHV (Emergency Response) and safety training to logistics courses and multi-year programs for safety professionals.
We want to continuously develop our courses and training. Not because something new is by definition better, but because we want to know what truly works. We can make good use of your fresh perspective and L&D knowledge for this.
What you'll do
As a Learning & Development intern, you will work for Inprevo, Jonkman Opleidingen, and Apply Opleidingen & Advies. You will investigate current developments within learning and development and translate these into concrete improvements in our training programs.
Your responsibilities include, among other things:
investigating which current didactic insights are relevant to our courses and training;
analyzing existing training, lesson programs, learning materials, and forms of assessment;
translating theory into practical and applicable improvements;
thinking along about activating and practice-oriented working methods;
investigating how we can better ensure knowledge and skills stick, for example through repetition, scenario-based learning, blended learning, and short learning interventions;
developing and testing new working methods, formats, or learning materials;
thinking along about the role of digital learning tools and AI within our training programs;
observing training in practice and engaging in conversation with trainers, teachers, and participants;
conducting pilots, gathering results, and actually helping to implement improvements.
So, you won't just be writing advice that subsequently disappears into a folder somewhere. Together with you, we want to try things out and see what works.
A special challenge: AI and assessment
Within Apply, we provide, among other things, training for safety professionals. The rapid development of generative AI raises new questions in this regard.
What does AI mean, for example, for assignments, exams, and other forms of assessment? When is a student allowed to use AI and when not? How do you determine whether someone actually masters the necessary knowledge and competencies themselves? And should we perhaps start using different ways of assessing?
You will help us, among other things, with:
investigating the influence of AI on assessment and examination;
mapping out possibilities and risks;
developing principles for the responsible use of AI by students;
thinking about assessment methods that remain reliable and valid even in a world with AI;
developing practical tools for teachers, assessors, and students.
In doing so, we are emphatically not just looking for ways to stop AI. We also want to investigate where AI can actually strengthen learning.
What could you deliver at the end of your internship?
Depending on your studies and interests, we will determine the exact assignment together.
Think, for example, of:
a didactic scan of our current training programs;
concrete design principles for our training and courses;
renewed working methods or learning interventions that you have tested yourself;
recommendations for blended learning, repetition, and transfer to practice;
a framework for the responsible use of AI within education and assessment;
new or adapted assessment methods for Apply;
There is therefore plenty of room to link a research or graduation assignment to this.
Where you will end up
You will work within the Training & Advice cluster of The Safety Network, which gives you a unique opportunity to observe three different training providers.
Inprevo focuses strongly on practical and scenario-based safety, BHV, and first aid training. Jonkman Opleidingen provides, among other things, logistics, technical, and safety training. Apply Opleidingen & Advies trains professionals within occupational safety.
Those differences make this internship particularly interesting. What works in a one-day practical training? What does a course that lasts months require? How do you ensure that someone not only understands something during the training, but can also actually apply it later on the work floor?
You will work together with trainers, teachers, educational scientists, subject matter specialists, and managers. In doing so, you will get plenty of room to ask questions, be critical, and come up with new ideas.
What you bring
You are following a HBO or WO degree in the field of Educational Science, Learning & Development, HRD, Applied Psychology, or a similar direction.
you are curious about how people learn and how you can design that learning more effectively.
you enjoy combining research with practice.
you are interested in new technology and the influence of AI on learning and assessment.
you can work independently, but also actively seek collaboration.
you dare to challenge existing ways of working if you think it can be done better.
you can translate complex theory into something a trainer or teacher can start working with tomorrow.
you are enrolled at an educational institution during your internship.
You don't need to be an expert in safety training yet. It is precisely your knowledge of learning and development that you will come to add to us.
This is what we offer you
a substantive internship in which you actually have influence on how we further develop our training programs.
an internship position for 32 to 40 hours per week and a period of approximately 4 to 6 months;
room for a research or graduation assignment;
guidance from the Training & Advice cluster;
access to different types of training, trainers, teachers, and participants;
the possibility to test ideas directly in practice;
hybrid working and the possibility to observe at different locations within The Safety Network;
an internship allowance in accordance with our internship regulations;
Much freedom to provide direction to your own research and development.
Why this internship is different
You are not doing an internship at one training department with one type of education. You will deal with short training sessions, practical education, skill training, and longer vocational programs. This allows you to directly test didactic theory against different learning environments.
And at least as importantly: what you come up with, we actually want to start using.
Interested?
Do you want to investigate with us what learning, training, and assessment should look like in the coming years? Then we would love to meet you.
Above all, tell us what you are curious about within Learning & Development and which issue you would like to tackle during your internship.
