The role

By joining Sedgwick, you'll be part of something truly meaningful. It's what our 33,000 colleagues do every day for people around the world who are facing the unexpected. We invite you to grow your career with us, experience our caring culture, and enjoy work-life balance. Here, there's no limit to what you can achieve.

Experienced Goods Damage Expert

Transport & Logistics

Do you get energized by complex damages, unexpected situations, and uncovering exactly what happened?

Damaged cargo, an incident during transport, or a valuable good that arrives in an unexpected condition: every damage has its own story. As an Experienced Goods Damage Expert, you carefully map out that story.

Within Sedgwick, you investigate goods damage throughout the entire transport chain. From road transport, shipping, and air freight to container logistics. Drawing on your experience in transport or logistics, you assess the cause and extent of the damage and help involved parties to take well-considered next steps.

In doing so, you work independently, but never alone. You can count on the knowledge of fellow experts both domestically and abroad and are given the space to further develop yourself within the field of damage expertise.

"What makes damage expertise at Sedgwick so special is that no two days are the same. Working with a specialized team of professionals, we work on complex damages where people, emotions, and interests demand attention, understanding, and decisiveness. It is precisely in that dynamism that our strength lies. We bring calm to complex situations by acting quickly, communicating clearly, and carefully managing expectations. Damage expertise at Sedgwick is not just about technical knowledge, but above all about creating trust in an environment where new challenges constantly arise."
- Michiel, Operational Director Expertise Benelux

Here you make the difference

As a damage expert, you combine investigation, analysis, and intensive contact with all involved parties. No standard files, but situations where your professional knowledge, curiosity, and judgment provide direction.

Concretely, this means:

  • Investigating goods damage at terminals, in warehouses, ports, distribution centers, and other locations;
  • Determining the cause, nature, and extent of damages that occurred during transport;
  • Speaking with drivers, planners, warehouse employees, carriers, and other involved parties;
  • Coordinating investigations by foreign fellow experts and, when necessary, acting internationally yourself;
  • Advising on practical measures to limit further damage;
  • Recording findings and conclusions in clear, factual reports in Dutch and English.

What you bring

Experience within transport, logistics, or supply chain forms a strong basis for this position. Perhaps you currently work for a carrier, terminal, warehouse, shipping company, freight forwarder, or logistics service provider and are ready to apply your knowledge from a new perspective.

In addition, the following elements are important:

  • A completed MBO or HBO education, preferably in transport, logistics, or a maritime direction;
  • At least three years of relevant experience within transport, logistics, supply chain, or a similar operational environment;
  • Analytical ability and the curiosity to investigate causes thoroughly;
  • Excellent command of Dutch and a good command of English;
  • Willingness to travel within the Netherlands, Belgium, Northern Germany, and occasionally beyond;
  • Flexibility to sometimes take action outside of usual office hours in the event of urgent damages.

An existing professional network is welcome, but more important is the ability to build lasting relationships with clients and parties within the transport and logistics sector.

Why choose Sedgwick?

At Sedgwick, you get the freedom and responsibility to conduct investigations independently, while a wide network of experienced specialists stands ready to share knowledge. The role offers a lot of variety, direct contact with customers and involved parties, and plenty of opportunities to further specialize.

In addition, you can count on:

  • A great deal of independence, responsibility, and space to organize investigations according to your own insight;
  • Collaboration with experts from the transport, maritime, and other specialist fields;
  • A salary that aligns with your knowledge and experience;
  • 28 vacation days on a full-time basis, 8% holiday allowance, and the possibility to purchase extra days;
  • A lease car, phone, laptop, expense allowance, and bonus scheme;
  • Training and development opportunities, including support in obtaining a NIVRE registration.
