The role

By joining Sedgwick, you'll be part of something truly meaningful. It's what our 33,000 colleagues do every day for people around the world who are facing the unexpected. We invite you to grow your career with us, experience our caring culture, and enjoy work-life balance. Here, there's no limit to what you can achieve.

Medical Underwriter

To expand the 'Disability Insurance Underwriting' team, Sedgwick Medas in Amstelveen is looking for a driven medical underwriter. Are you interested in mental and physical health and do you find it interesting to accurately assess medical risks? Then we are looking for you!

What you'll do

For entrepreneurs, freelancers, and employees, disability insurance (AOV) is of great importance to ensure the continuity of their income. As a medical advisory firm for insurers, Sedgwick Medas undertakes the task of determining whether a requested insurance can be established on medical grounds and, if so, under which conditions.

As a Medical Underwriter, you will assess and advise, based on health statements and any additional medical information, on the medical risks that are relevant to the acceptance of the insurance and the potential conditions under which it can be concluded. You will learn to estimate how various factors influence the risk for the insurer. During your work, you will come into contact with diverse medical conditions, treatments, high-risk sports, or professions, ensuring that no two assessments are the same. As a team, we complete the medical underwriting process for hundreds of applications monthly, and you and your colleagues serve as the link between insurers, their clients, intermediaries, and medical advisors.

Why do we choose you?

You collaborate well, communicate clearly, and enjoy having contact with clients and colleagues in the office. You feel comfortable in a role where you must work very accurately, must know the various processes, and pass your knowledge on to others. You also possess:

  • HBO/WO working and thinking level with a health-related degree and/or relevant work experience;

  • Preferably availability of 24 to 40 hours per week;

  • Excellent command of the Dutch language (spoken and written), as well as a good command of the English language;

  • Eagerness to learn: you pick things up quickly, understand processes, and are good at making connections;

  • Accuracy and discretion, as you work with privacy-sensitive information.

Why choose Sedgwick Medas?
The team at the Sedgwick Medas department works hard but also laughs a lot. Colleagues care about one another, you receive good guidance, and there is room to develop yourself and think along about how things can be done differently or better. But there is more:

  • A market-conform salary;

  • 28 annual vacation days (based on full-time employment) and the possibility to purchase extra days advantageously;

  • 8% holiday allowance, a public holiday allowance, and travel expenses reimbursement;

  • The possibility to follow training courses;

  • Social activities such as Christmas drinks, department outings, and Friday afternoon drinks.
