By joining Sedgwick, you'll be part of something truly meaningful. It's what our 33,000 colleagues do every day for people around the world who are facing the unexpected. We invite you to grow your career with us, experience our caring culture, and enjoy work-life balance. Here, there's no limit to what you can achieve.
The calculation of damages following injury or death due to an accident, occupational disease, or medical error is complex and requires sharp financial insight.
At Sedgwick, we are looking for an Actuarial Expert who digs into challenging issues and knows how to fathom and calculate precise financial damages.
Imagine this: Bram, 19 years old, works at a meat processing company and is also pursuing a higher professional education (HBO) degree in Business Administration. During his work, he is involved in a serious industrial accident and suffers brain damage. His recovery is difficult and he suffers from permanent complaints. As a result, he cannot complete his studies and is expected to be unable to function at an HBO level. This leads to a lower earning capacity and thus financial damage.
As an Actuarial Expert, it is your task to calculate these damages. You analyze the hypothetical earning capacity and determine the present value of future damage items.
No two days are the same. You receive requests from various parties to perform an actuarial analysis of the loss of earning capacity. This can involve reduced income, but also future costs such as domestic help or assistive devices. You work with specialized calculation software and take into account interest, inflation, and other economic factors.
In the Netherlands, there are over 1.2 million self-employed individuals without income protection in the event of disability. Following an injury, you analyze their annual accounts and assess the viability of their business. You visit the entrepreneur, investigate drivers and ambitions, and think along about improvements in business operations and employability.
You will join a small, close-knit team of two Actuarial Experts who will guide and train you. Additionally, you will work together with colleagues from Bodily Injury, Care Damage, and our Vocational Experts.
In the role of Actuarial Expert, you possess:
a collegial and positive attitude
a service-oriented attitude and commercial feeling
empathy
insight into the position of the actuary within claims handling
a completed HBO/WO degree in a financial or economic field (Business Administration is a plus)
a good command of the Dutch and English languages
an affinity for numbers
experience with MS Office and especially with Excel
strong digital skills.
