Business Interruption Expert

Can you translate complex financial information into a clear and carefully substantiated picture of the damage?

A major fire or other significant damage can completely disrupt business operations. At such a moment, rapid insight is needed into the financial consequences and into the possibilities to mitigate further business interruption.

What you'll do

As a Business Interruption Expert at Sedgwick, you investigate and assess complex losses at companies. On-site, you form an image of the situation together with other specialists. Subsequently, you analyze the financial data, discuss possible measures with the parties involved, and report your findings to the client. Throughout the entire process, you monitor progress, keep stakeholders informed, and work towards a carefully determined business interruption loss.

"What makes damage expertise at Sedgwick so special is that no two days are the same. Working with a specialized team of professionals, we work on complex damages where people, emotions, and interests demand attention, understanding, and decisiveness. It is precisely in that dynamism that our strength lies. We bring calm to complex situations by acting quickly, communicating clearly, and carefully managing expectations. Damage expertise at Sedgwick is not just about technical knowledge, but above all about creating trust in an environment where new challenges constantly arise."

  • Michiel, Operational Director Expertise Benelux

Here you make the difference

Within this independent expert role, you combine financial depth with clear communication and a practical outlook. No file is the same: the scale of the damage, the business processes, and the interests of the parties involved differ per situation.

Concretely, this means:

  • analyzing financial data, accounting records, and business processes to determine the extent of the business interruption loss;
  • preparing financially substantiated loss calculations, reports, and advice;
  • assessing policy conditions and translating them to the relevant loss file;
  • conducting discussions with clients, accountants, legal experts, and other involved parties;
  • advising on measures with which the consequences of a business standstill can be limited as much as possible;
  • guiding large and complex losses, together with technical experts, legal experts, and other specialists.

In addition to the substantive handling of files, you contribute to knowledge sharing within the team. As an experienced interlocutor, you think along with fellow experts and represent Sedgwick during meetings and expert assessments.

A complex loss requires someone who quickly grasps financial information, arrives at a judgment carefully, and can explain that judgment convincingly. Even when interests diverge, you know how to bring structure and maintain professional contact.

What you bring

More important than a standard profile is the ability to judge independently, manage expectations clearly, and be a reliable interlocutor for all parties involved.

Why choose Sedgwick?

At Sedgwick, you get the freedom to deploy your expertise independently, with a specialized team to fall back on. Collaboration and knowledge sharing take an important place, precisely because complex losses often affect multiple fields of expertise.

In addition, you can count on:

  • a great deal of independence and responsibility in the handling of complex loss files;
  • collaboration with experts from disciplines such as technical, construction, fire and water damage, transport, and special risks;
  • a salary that matches education and experience, supplemented with a bonus scheme and expense allowance;
  • 28 vacation days for a full-time employment, with the possibility to purchase extra days;
  • a lease car that may also be used privately, a mobile phone, and a laptop;
  • profession-specific courses and training for further professional and personal development.
