The role

That is why you want to work for NS as a Technical Service Technician / Person in Charge

This is what you will be doing as a Technical Service Technician / Person in Charge

What you'll do

  • You combine working on various machines with ensuring safety during electrotechnical activities.
  • You contribute directly to the professionalization of our technical service and the safe execution of maintenance.
  • You will get plenty of room to learn, improve, and collaborate in a close-knit team.

As a Technical Service Technician / Person in Charge, you and your colleagues are responsible for the optimal functioning of our technical workshops and equipment. You ensure that maintenance proceeds safely and efficiently, whereby you supervise electrical activities and perform workplace inspections according to NS policy and applicable standards such as NEN 3140. You work with various machines and installations that are essential for train maintenance and act as the point of contact for TD technicians and external parties. You start the day at your fixed location in Leidschendam, where no two days are the same: from solving malfunctions to drafting safety protocols and supervising training sessions.

After a careful induction period, you will fill this position 50% as a Technical Service Technician and 50% as a Person in Charge. This means that half of your time is spent performing technical maintenance and solving malfunctions in machines and installations. The other half of your time, you focus on the responsibilities surrounding safe work on electrical installations, coordinating electrotechnical activities, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations. Thus, you have a versatile and varied role in which technology and safety come together.

Your tasks

  • Performing maintenance and solving malfunctions on machines, installations, and tools.
  • Performing technical analyses to prevent malfunctions and optimize maintenance.
  • Performing modifications and improvements to equipment, together with the maintenance engineer.
  • Monitoring compliance with laws and regulations regarding safe work on electrical installations.
  • Drafting and coordinating work instructions, safety protocols, and training programs.
  • Performing workplace inspections and handling safety reports.
  • Directing and supervising external parties and appointing technicians for high/low voltage activities.
  • Thinking along about and contributing to the improvement of work processes and advising on risks.
  • Collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders.

Where you will work

You start your day at the technical service of the Leidschendam maintenance company, part of NS Onderhoud en Service. You are part of a team of ten technical service technicians, one work planner, and the regional manager. You work in a fixed schedule from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and work on-call shifts according to the roster. The on-call shift is from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The working atmosphere is engaged, collegial, and focused on collaboration and professionalization.

The fun part is that you work between (but not on) the trains, where a great diversity of technology awaits you to tinker with, both in a team and independently.

Within NS, the technical services are currently working on a professionalization drive. The challenge for the team is to master the new way of working, processes, administration, and possible improvements.

At NS, we find diversity and inclusion important. Whatever your background or beliefs may be, you are welcome with us. We are curious about your vision for this position.
