The role
That is why you want to work as a Service Expert SAP Operations Team at NS Stations
What you'll do
- At NS Stations, you work on IT solutions that directly influence the daily operations of our stations, retail processes, and service to travelers. Within SAP Operations, we support processes that are crucial for stores, logistics, sales, inventory, finance, and collaboration with suppliers and chain partners.
- In this role, you look beyond a single application, a single process, or a single incident. You help us design SAP processes to be smarter, more stable, and future-proof. Not by making management larger, but precisely by improving structurally, stimulating standardization, and reducing the management burden wherever possible.
- You will enter an environment where much will change in the coming years. Large projects and innovations require someone who understands SAP, perceives the business context, and can translate strategic choices into concrete process design, workable solutions, and clear management agreements.
- A role with impact: you connect business, IT, and SAP processes and help NS Stations organize management to be smarter, simpler, and more future-proof.
As a Service Expert SAP Operations, you bridge the gap between business processes, SAP solutions, management, and future developments. You understand how processes work in practice, but also look ahead: what does a change mean for the chain, for the user, for management, and for future projects?
You are not only busy solving questions or incidents. Much more important is that you help prevent management from becoming unnecessarily complex. You analyze recurring issues, see where processes can be smarter, and translate this into concrete improvements in SAP, working methods, chain agreements, and backlog items.
You work closely with Product Owners, business analysts, functional administrators, suppliers, project teams, and the business. In doing so, you are able to bring different interests together and always ask the question: how do we design this so that it works for the business, fits within the standard, and remains manageable for the future?
Thanks to your substantive SAP knowledge, you are of great value in:
- translating business needs into workable SAP processes and solutions;
- analyzing process and chain impact during changes, projects, and incidents;
- identifying structural opportunities for improvement in SAP processes;
- reducing unnecessary management burden through standardization, process improvement, and clear agreements;
- assessing whether proposed solutions fit within standard SAP, chain agreements, and management principles;
- thinking along about the roadmap and further development of SAP within NS Stations;
- advising on process design, manageability, and future-proof choices;
- monitoring that new or changed solutions land well in management;
- translating strategic developments into concrete SAP design, work processes, and acceptance criteria;
- coordinating with internal and external stakeholders regarding process changes, dependencies, and chain impact;
- supporting testing, implementation, transfer, and safeguarding of new functionalities;
- contributing to knowledge sharing within the team, so that processes are better understood and controlled.
Where you will work
You will work within SAP Operations of NS Stations. This team supports and manages SAP processes that are important for the daily operations of NS Stations. Think of processes surrounding retail, logistics, inventory, sales, finance, interfaces, and chain agreements with internal and external parties.
We work in a multidisciplinary environment in which business, IT, suppliers, and project teams collaborate intensively. Changes in SAP are rarely isolated. An adjustment in one process can have an impact on other processes, systems, users, or management agreements. Therefore, we are looking for someone who sees connections, asks follow-up questions, and takes ownership of the whole.
Within the team, we work partly from home and partly in the office in Utrecht. Coordination with colleagues, stakeholders, and suppliers is an important part of the role. Sometimes this means you join projects, sometimes that you help the business with concrete process questions, and sometimes that you sharply indicate which choices are necessary to keep management manageable.
These are the job requirements
You recognize yourself in the following profile:
- You have an HBO or HBO+ working and thinking level.
- You have extensive experience with SAP in a management, process, or project environment.
- You understand how business processes are supported by SAP and can assess process impact well.
- You look beyond your own process or application and think in chains.
- You are analytically strong and can reduce complex issues to clear choices.
- You have experience translating business needs into functional solutions, process agreements, or management acceptance criteria.
- You are able to think critically about standardization, manageability, and future-proof design.
- You have experience with agile working and collaborating with Product Owners, business analysts, developers, administrators, and suppliers.
- Demonstrable domain knowledge of retail processes and the SAP Retail solution is a requirement.
- Multiple years of experience with SAP Retail and demonstrable knowledge of retail processes such as assortment, article data, pricing, purchasing, inventory, replenishment, and/or store operations is a strong plus.
- You are communicatively strong and can switch between business, IT, and management.
- You take ownership, see what can be improved, and know how to actually get improvements moving.
- You have experience with testing, implementation, transfer, and safeguarding of changes.
- Knowledge of ITIL, BiSL, ASL, or similar management processes is a plus.
- Experience with chain processes, integrations, and supplier coordination is a plus.
This makes the position extra interesting
- You work on SAP processes that directly touch the operations of NS Stations.
- You get the space to look further than daily management and truly contribute to process improvement.
- You play an important role in the preparation for large projects and future changes.
- You help the team to make management smarter, simpler, and more transferable.
- You work at the intersection of business, IT, SAP, process design, and chain management.
- You have influence on choices that determine how SAP Operations develops in the coming years.
Who you are
You are someone who sees SAP not just as a system, but as part of a larger whole. You understand that a good solution must not only work technically, but must also fit the process, the user, the chain, and the surrounding management.
You are curious, critical, and constructive. You dare to ask questions, even if a solution seems logical at first glance. You quickly see where risks, dependencies, or management burdens arise and know how to explain this clearly to various stakeholders.
You find it important to improve structurally. Not just solving incidents, but understanding why they arise. Not just thinking of a workaround, but looking at how it can be smarter, simpler, or more standard. You feel responsible for the whole and help the team to work increasingly professionally and with a future focus.
Working at NS means that you can make *the* difference in the dynamic world of sustainable mobility. You help keep the Netherlands accessible, for everyone. At NS, you get a lot of freedom. The possibilities to develop yourself are great. We promise you that no day is the same. And as one of the most beautiful employers in the Netherlands, we have even more to offer.
