The role

The Netherlands is digitalizing at a breakneck pace. We shop online, work from home more often, and arrange more and more matters digitally. Secure, reliable, and fast internet is therefore becoming increasingly important. KPN wants to make the Netherlands the best-connected country in the world. The mobile core is among the fastest-changing parts of the KPN network. New technologies such as 5G Standalone and Network Slicing are being introduced at a rapid pace. For this, new platforms must be implemented, existing functionality must be migrated, and old functionality must be decommissioned.

As a DevOps Engineer Packet Switched Core, you will work in a multidisciplinary DevOps team within the Mobile Core domain. Together, you will manage one of the most critical parts of the network. The atmosphere is open, direct, and focused on quality and reliability. You will be given space to experiment, learn, and improve – every single day. We find it important to meet each other regularly. Therefore, we typically work together in the office in Rotterdam two days per week.

As a DevOps Engineer Packet Switched Core, you will work at the heart of our mobile infrastructure, where innovation, stability, and scalability converge. You ensure that millions of consumers, businesses, emergency services, and other vital organizations always remain connected. With your expertise, you contribute to the availability, automation, and continuous improvement of our mobile core services. You do this with a strong intrinsic drive to continuously make processes, systems, and services smarter and better.

Your work has a direct impact on the quality of our mobile services. You ensure that data traffic flows smoothly through the network, prevent outages before they occur, and make the network faster, more stable, and future-proof. Whether it concerns the implementation of new 5G functionalities, the introduction of innovative services, or the optimization of existing platforms: your solutions make a difference every day for millions of users.

What you'll do

Your responsibilities:

  • Managing and automating Mobile Core platforms (4G/5G Packet Core)
  • Using CI/CD pipelines for automated management of network functions
  • Monitoring, analyzing, and improving performance, stability, and security
  • Troubleshooting complex issues in collaboration with technical and commercial departments
  • Participating in standby/on-call shifts to ensure the continuity of critical systems
