In short

As an engineer in the Engineering Team Systems, you help improve the technical reliability and availability of aircraft and components. You analyze technical issues, develop maintenance solutions, and prepare modifications. In this way, you contribute to a safe and reliable fleet and to sustainable, cost-efficient components.

What will you do?

When an aircraft malfunctions and standard maintenance instructions do not offer a solution, you work together with production to find a suitable approach. You monitor the performance and reliability of components, advise customers on technical issues, and assess the impact of documentation and modifications on KLM and the component pool.

Furthermore:

  • you work with the manufacturer and production on solutions, for example by drafting a repair instruction or granting approval to a design within EASA Part 21;
  • you monitor and analyze trends in component performance and, where possible, deploy smart (Big Data) tools to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs;
  • you collaborate with colleagues from Component Services (CS) and participate in customer teams, in which you provide technical advice to customers;
  • you assess documentation from manufacturers and aviation authorities (FAA/EASA) and advise your customers on the consequences for the aircraft configuration and component pool, so that they can make a balanced decision;
  • you translate approved proposals together with the team into actionable tasks in our maintenance systems.

Where will you land?

You work at KLM Engineering & Maintenance, in the heart of our maintenance organization. You will become part of a professional team within the Engineering department, where you will work together with colleagues who share expertise in aircraft technology and maintenance. The team is responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of aircraft and developing maintenance solutions for our customers worldwide. Your location is Schiphol-Oost. During the first few months, you will be fully trained on-site. After that, from your fourth month onwards, you can work from home for a maximum of two days per week.

The Engineering Team Systems is part of KLM E&M Engineering and consists of 29 engineers and technical specialists. Together, they work on technical reliability, fleet availability, and the evaluation and preparation of modifications to aircraft and components.

Your profile

We are looking for an engineer who thinks proactively and can perform technical analyses quickly. You switch effortlessly between different tasks and priorities, and you love the challenge of always thinking one step ahead. You bring new insights and ideas into the organization and have an eye for detail, especially when dealing with technical documentation and analyses. You work well in a team, but can also make decisions independently.

Furthermore:

  • you have a completed technical HBO degree, preferably in the field of aeronautical engineering or mechanical engineering.
  • you have work experience in a technical role, preferably within the aviation industry;
  • you have experience with technical documentation and maintenance processes in aviation;
  • you have an affinity for using technical systems and applications, such as SAP and Maintenix;
  • you have good communication skills and can report clearly in both Dutch and English.
