The role

Do you enjoy working at the intersection of acute psychiatry and highly specialized treatment?

As a psychiatrist at GGZ inGeest, you will work in two special departments in Amsterdam: the closed High Care clinic and the Neuromodulation department. Two different working environments, each with its own dynamics and expertise. It is precisely this combination that makes this position varied and substantively interesting.

On the High Care unit, you provide psychiatric care to clients in an acute phase of their condition. You work together with clients, loved ones, and a multidisciplinary team on an effective and personal treatment, with the goal that clients can resume their lives outside the clinic as quickly as possible.

In the Neuromodulation department, you work with people with severe psychiatric problems for whom highly specialized neuromodulation can be a treatment option. Here, diagnostics, treatment, consultation, technical innovations, and academic knowledge come together.

On both departments, you work together with driven colleagues who strive for good care and also have room for humor. You will get the opportunity to deploy your psychiatric expertise broadly and contribute to the further development of our range of treatments.

What you'll do

As a psychiatrist, you are involved in the content and quality of the treatment on both departments.

On the High Care:

  • you draw up treatment plans and supervise their implementation;

  • you prescribe and monitor medication;

  • you shape the treatment together with the client, loved ones, and involved practitioners;

  • you offer consultation and advice to colleagues regarding complex cases;

  • you share your psychiatric expertise with psychologists, nurse practitioners, social workers, peer support workers, nurses, and supervisors;

  • you contribute ideas regarding treatment strategies and the further development of care.

You are part of the clinical team of psychiatrists. The psychiatrists meet regularly to discuss treatments and cases. Thus, there is plenty of room for knowledge exchange and sharing experience. Furthermore, within the clinics, the psychiatrists work closely together and cover for each other where necessary.

In the Neuromodulation department, you work within an environment where consultation, diagnostics, highly specialized treatments, technical innovations, and academic studies come together. You work closely with a multidisciplinary team including nurses, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, psychologists, a clinical neuropsychologist, neuroscientists, and PhD students.

You deal with medical-psychiatric diagnostics, indication, and treatment, and have room to think along about complex cases and second opinions. There is also room within this department for scientific research regarding the target group.

The combination of both departments means you can deploy your expertise in different ways. One day, acute psychiatry and stabilization are central, while on the other department, you work within a highly specialized treatment setting. What both places have in common: we are curious, driven, and always want to see how we can help clients as well as possible.

Closed High Care clinic

High Care is an acute admission unit with approximately 21 beds for clients aged 18 to 65. The target group is diverse, and therefore the psychiatric clinical pictures are also varied. You treat, among others, clients with psychoses, bipolar disorders, depressions, and decompensated personality disorders.

Together with the client, loved ones, and the outpatient team, you establish clear treatment goals and timelines. We strive for an effective, personal, and as short as possible treatment, so that clients can pick up their lives outside the clinic as quickly as possible.

In addition, we pay attention to lifestyle and self-reliance and make use of various group therapies, including the G-schema.

You work in a multidisciplinary team with nurses, psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists. You also work together with chain partners such as the police, neighborhood managers, general practitioners, and RIBWs. Additionally, there are good partnerships with hospitals and other care clinics in the region.

Neuromodulation Department

In the Neuromodulation department, you work with clients with acute, severe psychiatric problems for whom highly specialized neuromodulation treatment is a possible treatment option. The target group is not age-bound and is cross-cluster.

The department works closely with various teams within GGZ inGeest, including clinics, FACT, and outpatient clinics. There are also partnerships with other GGZ providers in the region and beyond.

Collaboration with geriatric psychiatry has traditionally been intensive. As a result, you will deal with a wide variety of psychiatric problems, from severe depressions to psychotic and manic presentations. Multiple somatic conditions and early-stage cognitive disorders may also play a role.

Within the department, rTMS and ECT are offered, among others. Remediation and second opinions are also conducted within the framework of treatment advice. The department combines highly specialized treatment with a strong drive to make effective treatments available to people with heavy psychological complaints.

The beautiful thing about this setting? In a relatively short time, you experience the entire treatment trajectory: from intake and indication to treatment, evaluation, and completion. Contact with clients and their loved ones is intensive, but often of a relatively short duration.

What can you expect?
