The role
What you'll do
As a Care & Welfare Assistant, you provide residents with personal care and support during daily activities, such as dressing and undressing, washing, showering, eating, and drinking. You encourage residents to continue doing as much as possible themselves and take into account what someone can, wants, and finds pleasant to do themselves.
You work with residents with dementia who may also exhibit complex behaviors, such as restlessness, suspicion, aggression, wandering, or withdrawn behavior. You look beyond the behavior and try to understand the need or emotion behind it. With your patience, attention, and empathy, you help residents feel safe, familiar, and understood.
Within the residential groups, we work with group-enhanced care: extra attention, guidance, and expertise for residents who need this. You contribute to this by offering residents proximity, peace, and structure, and by aligning with their personal needs and possibilities.
You identify changes in the well-being, behavior, and health of residents and discuss these with your colleagues. Together with the team, you ensure a pleasant daily routine, a homely atmosphere, and moments of personal attention. A chat, a joint activity, or simply sitting next to someone for a moment: it is precisely those small moments that make a big difference for our residents.
This will be your workplace:
De Leeuwenhoek is located in the center of Rotterdam and offers a multicultural living and care environment for residents with dementia and complex behavior. You work with residents from various backgrounds, life stories, and care needs.
With us:
You work with residents with dementia and complex behavior, where personal attention, proximity, and structure are important;
We work with group-enhanced care for extra attention, guidance, and safety within the residential groups;
You look together with colleagues at what lies behind a resident's behavior and how you can respond to this in an appropriate manner;
You contribute to a calm, safe, and homely environment in which residents can be themselves.
You have an eye for well-being, personal experience, and the autonomy of residents;
You work closely with Caregivers IG, nurses, practitioners, and other colleagues.
You have contact with family and loved ones and show interest in the background and life story of residents;
You receive training and guidance in the areas of dementia, behavior, and group-enhanced care;
You are given space to ask questions, think along, and further develop yourself.
At De Leeuwenhoek, we believe that behind every behavior lies a need, emotion, or story. That is why we look beyond the care task and try to truly get to know every resident. Through person-centered and experience-oriented care, you contribute to a day in which residents feel seen, heard, and valued.
No two days are the same. Sometimes the difference lies in a familiar face, a quiet moment, or the way you approach someone. With your attention and involvement, you make every day meaningful.
This is you:
You have a heart for care, are patient and involved, and see the person behind the resident. You understand that dementia influences how someone experiences the world and that behavior is sometimes a way to make something clear.
You remain calm in challenging situations, can observe well, and know when a resident needs extra attention or support. You are friendly, respectful, and have an eye for different backgrounds, habits, and life stories.
You work independently, take responsibility, and seek collaboration with colleagues. You dare to ask questions, are open to feedback, and find it important to continue developing yourself.
Experience with dementia care or complex behavior is a plus, but above all, we value your involvement, eagerness to learn, and willingness to look at things differently.
Good care sometimes requires looking just a little differently. Are you a rule-breaker and do you sometimes color outside the lines? Then you fit well at Humanitas.
