The role

Got your diploma in hand and ready to start your career? At Fugro, you will get the chance to work from day one on projects that visibly contribute to the infrastructure, living environment, and energy transition of tomorrow.

What is built above ground, everyone sees. What lies beneath determines whether a project succeeds. That is where you, as a Junior Geotechnical Advisor, make the difference. At Fugro, you don't just investigate the subsurface; you also see how that knowledge is generated. From soil investigation and laboratory testing to geo-data, monitoring, and advice: you will gain insight into the entire geotechnical chain.

Why choose Fugro?

At many consultancy and engineering firms, you work with soil data collected by other parties. At Fugro, you are much closer to the source. Our in-house specialists perform the soil investigations themselves, collect geo-data in the field, analyze soil samples in our laboratories, and monitor the behavior of the subsurface before and during the execution of projects.

Because of this, as a junior, you don't just provide the final advice, but you also understand where the data comes from and how geotechnical advice is actually established. You gain insight into the entire chain: from cone penetration tests, boreholes, and laboratory research to analysis, design, and advice. That makes working at Fugro unique. You don't just learn how to perform calculations, but also how the subsurface is actually investigated, measured, and understood. In this way, you develop yourself into an advisor who looks beyond the models alone.

Together with experienced colleagues, you will work on foundations for high-rise buildings, deep excavations, dikes, infrastructure projects, and sustainable energy projects. In doing so, you will work closely with specialists in geotechnics, soil investigation, monitoring, geophysics, water safety, hydrology, and civil engineering. It is precisely this multidisciplinary collaboration that ensures you learn to understand the impact of the subsurface from different perspectives.

You will participate in project teams and receive responsibility that matches your experience. You will work on challenging projects; think of projects such as the widening of the A9 Badhoevedorp-Holendrecht, the Oosterweel connection, and the development of energy infrastructure. With guidance from experienced colleagues, training, and coaching, you will develop yourself step by step into an independent advisor, specialist, or project manager.

What you will do

  • You perform geotechnical calculations and analyses for various projects. Think of foundation and pile calculations, settlement and stability analyses, and the modeling of excavations and earth structures using Plaxis;
  • You contribute to the design and assessment of foundations for buildings, infrastructure projects, and underground structures. Additionally, you provide support for issues regarding deep excavations, sheet pile walls, and pipeline routes;
  • You analyze data from soil investigations, such as cone penetration tests, boreholes, and laboratory tests, and translate these into practical technical advice;
  • You support clients in gaining insight into the risks and opportunities of the subsurface;
  • You learn to work with advanced geo-data, digital subsurface models, and the latest geotechnical analysis techniques that Fugro uses to better understand the subsurface.

"You don't have to be able to do all of this from day one. We believe in learning in practice. That is why you receive the guidance, responsibility, and development opportunities that match your experience and ambitions."

What you have to offer

  • A completed HBO or WO degree in Civil Engineering, Geo-Engineering, Technical Earth Sciences, or similar;
  • Interest in geotechnics and its application within infrastructure, construction, and urban development;
  • Preferably internship, thesis, or work experience within geotechnics, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects;
  • An analytical and curious attitude and the motivation to further develop yourself;
  • Good communication skills and enjoyment in collaborating;
  • A B driving license;
  • Good command of the Dutch language.

What you can count on regarding these employment conditions

  • The salary is between € 3,200 and € 3,600 depending on your existing and relevant experience. This amount is part of our salary range, with growth opportunities within the organization;
  • 29 vacation days per year based on full-time employment (of which 4 are collectively designated by Fugro) and the possibility to purchase 12 extra leave days;
  • The possibility to work from home, in consultation with your manager and in accordance with Fugro's remote work policy;
  • The possibility to set up an ergonomic home workspace, including requesting equipment such as hardware and basic office furniture;
  • A net home office allowance of € 2.35 per day, if applicable;
  • A travel allowance, with a mileage allowance for car travel between 10 and 30 kilometers one way and an additional allowance of € 0.10 per kilometer for employees who walk or cycle to work;
  • A modern pension scheme;
  • Discounts on supplementary health insurance packages through the health insurers with whom Fugro collaborates;
  • Free parking in our own parking garage, with ample parking space and charging points for electric cars;
  • A bicycle lease plan with a contribution from Fugro;
  • Access to the fitness room at the headquarters, including participation in group classes;
  • The possibility to participate in our corporate fitness plan;
