As we accelerate our digital transformation, we are looking for a Medior Data Engineer who gets energy from understanding business problems, collaborating with stakeholders, designing and building data solutions, developing reliable cloud data pipelines, creating trusted datasets, and enabling analytics and AI within the organization.

You will work closely with engineering, analytics, data science, and domain teams to deliver robust data products that support Fugro's global operations.

Your role

What you'll do

  • You collaborate with stakeholders to understand their challenges, objectives, and desired outcomes and translate business needs into data solutions and data products;
  • You design, build, and maintain cloud-native batch and streaming pipelines on Databricks using Lakeflow, Delta Lake, and orchestration tools;
  • You implement the medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) to deliver reliable and high-performing datasets;
  • You develop data transformations in PySpark and Spark SQL and assist in standardizing reusable engineering patterns;
  • You take ownership of data quality, observability, and operational reliability through validation, monitoring, alerting, and runbooks;
  • You work with Unity Catalog to ensure well-governed access, documentation, and data lineage;
  • You translate analytical and business requirements into scalable and pragmatic datasets that support BI, analytics, and AI;
  • You contribute to engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing methodologies, CI/CD, and cost-efficient cloud usage;
  • You work closely with platform, analytics, and domain teams to deliver end-to-end production-ready data products.

Your profile

  • You have 3 to 6 years of experience as a Data Engineer or comparable experience in realizing production-ready cloud data pipelines;
  • You have hands-on experience with (Apache Spark on) Databricks;
  • You possess strong Python and SQL skills;
  • You have experience building reliable batch and/or streaming data pipelines;
  • You have worked within at least one major cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and understand concepts surrounding cloud storage and security;
  • You are familiar with lakehouse principles, Delta Lake, and incremental processing patterns;
  • You have knowledge of data governance concepts such as catalogs, authorizations, lineage, and data contracts (experience with Unity Catalog is a plus);
  • You have experience with common data ingestion patterns (files, APIs, and databases) and know how to find a good balance between reliability, performance, and cost;
  • You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders.
