The role

How do you ensure that medical technology functions reliably, technical innovations find their way into practice, and healthcare professionals can trust the equipment they use daily? As Team Leader of the Instrumentation Service at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, you combine technical insight with powerful leadership. You build a professional, well-organized department and give employees both the space and the responsibility to raise the level of service together.

Your role: providing direction, connecting, and improving

The Instrumentation Service is indispensable for the safe, reliable, and future-oriented functioning of medical-technical equipment within the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. From management and maintenance to the implementation of new technology and the development of customized technical solutions: the service ensures that technology aligns with the needs of our healthcare professionals and the requirements of a high-tech hospital environment.

What you'll do

As Team Leader of the Instrumentation Service, you lead the instrumentation technicians, maintenance coordinators, and instrument makers. You are responsible for daily management as well as the further development of the team and the department. You face a significant but solid development challenge. You bring structure, clarify roles and responsibilities, and strengthen collaboration. You create clear frameworks and working agreements, so that employees know what is expected of them and experience the space to take ownership. In doing so, you make a difference with your leadership. You know how to bring people along during changes, engage in dialogue when necessary, and dare to make choices. You combine a coaching approach with clarity and result-orientation. This allows you to translate ambitions into concrete improvements that are not only implemented but also sustainably secured.

You work closely with clinical physicists, other team leaders, the manager, and internal and external partners. Together, you build an Instrumentation Service in which craftsmanship, responsibility, collaboration, and innovation are central.

What will you do?

  • Building structure and clarity. You ensure clear roles, responsibilities, and working agreements. You bring focus and create clarity regarding priorities and expectations.

  • Growing employees and the team. You coach and develop employees, stimulate ownership, and build a culture in which colleagues hold each other accountable, take responsibility, and work together toward shared results.

  • Actually realizing change. You translate the department's development challenge into concrete actions and improvements. You involve employees, make bottlenecks and resistance discussable, and ensure that new ways of working become part of daily practice.

  • Ensuring reliable technical services. You manage the proper management and maintenance of medical-technical equipment and the effective handling of malfunctions, maintenance issues, and technical requests.

  • Stimulating innovation and customization. You provide space for technical innovation and help realize appropriate solutions when existing equipment or standard solutions are insufficient.

  • Contributing to new technology. You are involved in the assessment, purchase, and implementation of medical equipment and technical facilities.

  • Organizing processes more intelligently. You improve work processes, set priorities, and ensure an efficient use of people and resources.

  • Steering on progress and results. You translate goals into concrete actions, monitor progress, and make results and points for improvement transparent.

  • Creating connections. You strengthen collaboration with clinical physicists, healthcare professionals, support services, suppliers, and other technical disciplines.

Why the AVL?

At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, everything revolves around progress. Here, healthcare professionals and researchers join forces to truly make a difference in the world of cancer. We are driven, curious, and determined to save lives and improve quality of life. Innovation is in our DNA: we continuously seek better solutions, smarter processes, and new technologies that advance care. And here, you will be given the space to help build this. To make an impact. Together with colleagues who strive for substance, collaboration, and results.

Requirements

You are a strong, connecting leader who knows how to motivate people and dares to provide direction. You have an eye for employee development, but do not lose sight of organizational goals and results. You bring structure where it is needed, challenge existing ways of working, and help a team take steps forward together.

You are visible, accessible, and clear. You provide trust and space, but also hold employees accountable for responsibilities and agreements made. You sense what is happening, know when to connect and when to decide, and maintain course when changes become challenging.

In addition, you bring:

  • HBO/WO working and thinking level, preferably with a technical background or demonstrable affinity with medical-technical equipment.

  • Extensive experience in leadership and strong people management skills.

  • Demonstrable experience with change processes, team development, and process improvements.

  • The ability to bring structure, clearly distribute responsibilities, and hold employees accountable for agreements.

  • Experience with improving processes and realizing results in a complex organization.

  • A coaching and result-oriented leadership style, with attention to both individual development and team performance.

  • A hands-on mentality, organizational sensitivity, and the ability to set priorities and make decisions.

  • Strong communication skills and the talent to connect different disciplines, interests, and perspectives.

  • Affinity with technical services, maintenance, innovation, and healthcare.
