The role
You are sitting at the table with project managers, site managers, and work planners. Together, you discuss the progress of a project. Is everything running according to plan? Where do risks arise? What do today's choices mean for tomorrow's results?
As a project controller at KWS Rotterdam-Zwijndrecht, you are right in the middle of our infra projects. You work together with project managers, site managers, and work planners, ensuring that projects are not only technically successful but also remain financially healthy. You translate complex project information into clear insights, make opportunities and risks discussable, and help project teams make better choices.
Your job
As a project controller, you are part of the project team and serve as the financial sparring partner for the project managers.
You are not responsible for one specific project, but support multiple projects and regional areas simultaneously, and additionally oversee various projects within your work area. In doing so, you continuously monitor the financial health of projects and the developments that influence the final result.
You look beyond just the numbers. When a project deviates, you want to know why. When a project is running well, you want to understand what makes it successful. You use those insights to continuously improve projects and processes.
Within approximately two months, you will have a good understanding of your projects and stakeholders. After six months, you will know how the organization works, where the opportunities lie, and how you can actually make an impact.
What you'll do
Your week is varied. Around the monthly reporting period, you are busy with analyses, reports, and forecasts. In the other weeks, you regularly visit project teams on location to gain insight into the progress of the work and the choices being made during execution.
Your responsibilities include:
Preparing and analyzing prognoses and forecasts;
Identifying financial opportunities and risks;
Monitoring results, budgets, and margins;
Analyzing deviations within projects;
Preparing project reports;
Supporting monthly and period closings;
Monitoring the quality of the project administration and the financial progress of the project;
Advising project teams on financial issues and opportunities for improvement.

About KWS Rotterdam-Zwijndrecht
Large in the region, connected to each other. KWS Infra Rotterdam-Zwijndrecht has over 200 colleagues. A close-knit team in which people know each other, strengthen each other, and want to move forward together. Our work area is the province of Zuid-Holland: the region where many of our colleagues live, where we know our customers well, and where we are visible daily.
That regional connection is an important strength. We know what is happening, move with a changing environment, and constantly look for ways to do our work smarter, more sustainably, and better. With a turnover of approximately 160 million euros per year, clear ambitions in the field of sustainability, and a wide range of projects, we are a leading infra partner in the region.
From the city to the port and from large infrastructural developments to works closer to home. In doing so, we are proud of the projects we realize together. For example, we work on the Leidse Ring Noord, provide all the maintenance in the Hoeksche Waard and IJsselmonde, and make the city center of Rotterdam a little more beautiful with Stadse Werken.
But ultimately, it is not just about the projects. It is the people who make them possible together. By sharing knowledge, helping each other, and taking a step forward every day, we build not only the infrastructure of Zuid-Holland but also a strong branch in which we make a difference together.
About KWS
KWS is part of VolkerWessels and is the specialist in the field of infrastructure. From roads and public spaces to everything located above, below, and on the water.
With our branches, subsidiaries, and holdings, we possess a wide range of disciplines, always close to our customers. From consultancy to asphalt production and from earthmoving, sewerage, and hydraulic engineering to small-scale works for municipalities and individuals. As a market leader in road construction and asphalt production, we also realize large-scale, multidisciplinary projects with which we establish complete infrastructure. Daily, over 2,000 driven colleagues commit themselves to the accessibility and livability of the Netherlands.
