The role
As a Fortinet Network Engineer, you will work on the networks and security environments that organizations rely on daily. Our clients range from government and industry to large enterprise organizations. From relatively traditional office environments to mission-critical infrastructures where downtime is simply not an option.
In this position, you will work daily on complex enterprise networking and security environments. You will be involved in both operational issues and structural improvements within existing and new infrastructures.
What you'll do
You will be involved in analyzing, optimizing, and improving complex network and security environments in which technology never stands still. Approximately 60% of your activities consist of operational tasks such as troubleshooting, incident analysis, changes, and optimizations. The remaining time is spent working on projects, migrations, and improvement trajectories for clients.
One day you might solve a challenging routing or firewall issue, while the next day you work on an SD-WAN implementation, a security improvement, or a migration within a complex enterprise environment. It is precisely this combination of operations and projects that ensures you continue to develop yourself broadly technically.
Additionally, you will receive a lot of freedom in the way you organize your work. The team typically works together two days per week from our office in Capelle aan den IJssel. Beyond that, you largely determine for yourself, in consultation, where and how you work. Whether that is at home, in the office, or at a client's site. In doing so, we believe in personal responsibility, flexibility, and trust.
What makes this role extra interesting is that you don't just solve problems, but also think along about improvements. Why did an incident occur? How do we prevent it from happening again? And which optimizations make an environment safer, more stable, and more manageable? With this, you have a direct influence on the quality of our services and the continuity of the client environments we manage.
In addition, you will work daily with experienced network and security specialists who enjoy sharing their knowledge. As a result, you will not only develop yourself as a Fortinet Engineer, but also build experience with other technologies, security domains, and architectural issues.
You do not only work reactively on technical issues, but also actively contribute to improving and future-proofing the environments for which you are responsible.

- Routing and switching issues, including BGP and OSPF;
- SD-WAN environments and network segmentation;
- Security hardening and performance optimizations;
- Automation of network and security processes;
- Executing changes and preparing implementations;
- Root cause analyses and structural improvements;
- Collaborating with consultants, architects, and other engineers.

Experience with Cisco or Check Point environments is also highly relevant within similar enterprise landscapes.
You are an engineer who loves to dive deep into technology and gets energy from complex infrastructures. You have a strong foundation in networking and security and enjoy not only solving problems but also improving them structurally.
For example, you have experience as a:
- Network Engineer;

- An active NSE4 certification (or higher) or an active CCNP certification.
Certifications such as NSE4, NSE5, NSE7, CCNP, or similar are a strong plus. Do you have experience with Cisco or Check Point environments and do you want to further develop yourself towards Fortinet? Then we would also love to get in touch with you.
At Axians, we help organizations increase their digital resilience. We support clients in protecting their networks, data, and systems and ensure that their environments remain secure, stable, and future-proof.
Our clients are incredibly diverse. We work for governments, industrial organizations, large corporate clients, and mission-critical environments where continuity is essential. It is precisely that diversity that makes the work challenging. No client environment is the same, and you will come into contact with different technologies, architectures, and security issues daily.
You will join a specialized team of eight engineers, ranging from mid-level to senior level. Fortinet forms the technical foundation within the team, but colleagues also possess specialist knowledge of, among others, Check Point, Infoblox, networking, and security architecture. As a result, you get the chance not only to deepen your knowledge of Fortinet but also to develop yourself more broadly within networking and cybersecurity.
What characterizes our team is the combination of technical depth, knowledge sharing, and an informal working atmosphere. Lines are short, colleagues find each other easily, and knowledge is actively shared during technical sessions, challenging client cases, and daily collaboration. Are you running into something? There is always a colleague ready to think along with you.
Many engineers who start in Operations eventually grow into roles such as Technical Consultant or Service Consultant. This development arises not only through training and certifications, but precisely through the experience gained in complex client environments and collaborating with experienced specialists.
In this way, at Axians, you combine the impact of VINCI Energies with the commitment of a close-knit team, and you work not only on the security environments of today, but also on your own technical future.
At Axians, you work in a technically driven environment where engineering is central. You work together with experienced specialists on complex enterprise networks and security solutions for clients where availability, continuity, and security are of crucial importance.
Additionally, we offer:
- A salary, tailored to your knowledge and experience, between € 4,000 and € 5,200;
- Profit sharing based on achieved company objectives;
- 8% holiday allowance and 25 vacation days, with the possibility to accrue more days;
- Secondary employment conditions such as a premium-free pension scheme and the possibility to buy shares (under favorable conditions);
- Lease car or mobility budget;
- Naturally, you will have a laptop and phone at your disposal;
- Budget for setting up your home workplace (€ 500) and for the purchase of IT hardware (€ 350);
- Lots of flexibility in where and how you work. The team typically meets at the office two days per week; for the remaining days, you largely determine for yourself, in consultation, where you work;
- Plenty of room for technical development and certifications;
- Challenging enterprise client environments;
- Specialist colleagues to brainstorm with;
- Modern tooling and room for automation;
- Growth opportunities towards specialist, consultant, or architect;
- An environment in which your technical input truly counts.
We actively invest in the development of our engineers. Many colleagues already possess an NSE4 certification when they start. In practice, we see that engineers often develop further towards NSE5, NSE6, and NSE7 certifications. Depending on your ambition, you can also grow towards certifications such as CCNP Security or CISSP.
