Senior Network Engineer - Mission-Critical Infrastructure

Design, build, automate, and run networks that truly matter

As a Senior Network (Automation) Engineer, you own the network - from idea to reality, and everything that follows. You work through all layers, from fabric to cloud overlay, and automation is your default.

Full-time · Rotterdam · 32-40 hours · 3 days per week in the office

You work on complex, mission-critical network infrastructures for customers where downtime truly costs something. You are involved from the beginning and remain involved as long as the system is running. Concretely, this means you:

• Architect, design, build, and maintain highly available, secure, and scalable networks, both on-premises and in the public cloud (Azure)
• Work through the full stack: from routing and switching (BGP, OSPF, EVPN/VXLAN) to firewalling, load balancing, SDN, and VMware NSX
• Automate and template network configurations according to Infrastructure-as-Code principles, using Terraform, Ansible, and Chef
• Integrate and manage IPAM (preferably Nautobot or NetBox) and IAM as the source of truth for your automation
• Work on Kubernetes networking issues, CI/CD automation, and GitLab/GitOps workflows
• Independently investigate and resolve performance and security issues in complex network landscapes
• Contribute to change planning, security incidents, audits, and continuous improvement
• Run greenfield projects, with responsibility ranging from architecture to hands-on build and further development

No isolated tasks, no handovers - you build what you design and take responsibility for how it runs.

This role is for you if you are an experienced, hands-on Network Engineer who takes responsibility and loves to build yourself.

Experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or in a similar role.

• A proven senior track record as a Network Engineer in high-availability environments
• Hands-on experience with Cisco, Arista, and/or Extreme Networks
• Deep knowledge of F5, Cisco ASA, and Palo Alto
• Experience with automation and Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible, Chef (Python or Go is certainly a plus)
• Experience with public cloud networking (Azure) and integration with on-premises networks
• Strong troubleshooting skills - you resolve complex network and security problems independently
• Dutch and English at a professional level: you communicate with Dutch-speaking stakeholders, our technical documentation is in English
• You live in the Netherlands. The location is Rotterdam and you are in the office at least 3 days per week. We do not offer relocation or visa sponsorship and do not process applications from abroad

More important than any checkbox is that you find it logical to say: "If I design this, then I also want to build, automate, and manage it myself."
