Primary Engineer

• You have a completed HBO (higher professional education) degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or similar.
• You have a good command of the Dutch and English languages, both spoken and written.
• You possess a Category B driver's license.
• You are willing to visit project locations within the West-South region.

• A permanent contract with a two-month probationary period, based on 32 to 40 hours per week.
• A salary in scale 8: €4276 to €8443 per month with 8% holiday allowance and 6% year-end bonus.

Keeping the Netherlands powered, that is our mission. As a Primary Engineer within Onshore Brownfield & Maintenance, you ensure that the electricity grid remains future-proof. Together with your team, you work on renewing, expanding and maintaining existing high-voltage substations in the West-South region, contributing to a stable and sustainable energy system.

With your knowledge of high-voltage components, substation designs, and technical standards, you help TenneT realize a future-proof electricity grid and support the energy transition.

Within onshore Brownfield & Maintenance, we work daily on the preservation and modernization of TenneT's existing high-voltage infrastructure. For our team in the West-South region, we are looking for a Primary Engineer who combines specialist technical knowledge with ownership, collaboration, and a strong focus on safety.

• You are part of multidisciplinary project teams and involved throughout the entire project lifecycle: from scoping, design, and engineering to execution, commissioning, and handover to operations.
• You are a technical specialist and the point of contact for primary installations within replacement, expansion, and maintenance projects of high-voltage substations.
• You prepare technical designs, specifications, assessment documents, and work packages for primary systems such as circuit breakers, disconnectors, transformers, instrument transformers, surge arresters, rail systems, cable connections, and earthing installations.
• You assess designs, calculations, drawings, and reports from contractors and engineering firms for quality, safety, and TenneT compliance.
• You translate technical standards, guidelines, specifications (PvE), and design principles into practical and executable project solutions.
• You monitor the technical coherence between primary installations and the interfaces with secondary technology, telecom, civil structures, and execution.
• You identify technical risks, deviations, and scope changes and advise project teams on suitable solutions and alternatives.
• You support technical trade-offs regarding the reliability, maintainability, availability, and safety of installations.
• You work closely with asset management, project management, maintenance engineers, execution teams, and suppliers.
• You actively share knowledge within the field and mentor less experienced engineers in their development.
• You contribute to the further development and standardization of primary engineering within TenneT.

• Your location is Gouda.

Additionally, you will regularly work at project locations in South Holland and Zeeland. Hybrid working is among the possibilities.

As a Primary Engineer, your main responsibilities are:

• Safety is always your number one priority.

• You have several years of relevant experience within energy technology, grid management, industry, or infrastructure projects.
• You possess knowledge of primary installations within high-voltage substations.
• You have experience with high-voltage components such as transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, measuring transformers, cable systems, and earthing installations.
• You can independently assess technical designs, calculations, and drawings.
• You have knowledge of relevant standards, guidelines, and quality processes within the high-voltage world.
• You have an affinity with systems engineering, verification, and validation.
• Experience with UAV(-GC), contract management, or system-oriented contract management is a plus.
• You have an affinity with digitalization, standardization, and process improvement.
