The role

How do you keep the Netherlands powered? As a Grid Planning & Analysis Specialist, you play a key role in shaping the future of the Dutch electricity grid. You analyse system developments, identify future bottlenecks, and develop solutions that support a reliable, affordable, and future-proof energy system.

Working within the Grid Solutions team in the Design division, you translate complex system analyses into clear recommendations for future grid development. Together with stakeholders, you assess grid and non-grid solutions across short-, medium-, and long-term planning horizons (0-5, 5-15, and 15-25 years), ensuring alignment with investment plans, grid visions, and policies.

With your expertise in power system analysis, high-voltage networks, and problem-solving, you contribute directly to TenneT's strategic goals, including security of supply, sustainability, and a resilient electricity infrastructure.

As a Grid Planning & Analysing Specialist, you play a key role in shaping the future electricity grid. By combining grid analyses, congestion assessments, scenarios, asset strategies, and energy developments, you translate complex insights into clear grid visions and investment recommendations.

Working closely with colleagues and external stakeholders, you identify future capacity needs, assess system constraints, and support strategic decision-making. With your analytical expertise, you help ensure a reliable, robust, and future-proof grid while contributing directly to TenneT's goals of security of supply, the energy transition, and efficient infrastructure investments.

What you'll do

Your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring future-proof grid development by assessing grid strategy alternatives, system development scenarios and network expansion options within your assigned region.
  • Leading and coordinating grid planning and system studies to assess future system needs, identify constraints and evaluate potential network development pathways.
  • Developing and maintaining regional grid visions (together with DSO's) and planning perspectives by translating the outcomes of Investment Plan (IP) analyses, congestion studies, scenario assessments and stakeholder insights into coherent system development strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining national grid vision (with developments of offshore wind, nuclear, industry and interconnections) and planning perspectives by translating the outcomes of Investment Plan (IP) analyses, strategic studies, scenario assessments, and stakeholder insights into coherent network development strategies.
  • Providing the analytical foundation for network investment decisions (TollGate 1) by identifying system constraints, assessing alternative solutions and supporting prioritization of network reinforcement and expansion projects.
  • Performing grid calculations for investment decisions (TollGate 1) and assessing the future behavior of the grid and the total system, particularly in relation to power flows, short circuit levels, reactive power, contingency analyses and system stability.
  • Contributing to harmonized grid development methodologies, planning standards, and analytical frameworks across TenneT, ensuring consistency in network development strategies and planning processes in all project phases.
