The role
The procurement team at Smit B.V. - part of Royal IHC - is fully in development. With a portfolio of high-quality maritime technology and a global customer base, strategic procurement is essential to our success. Within our team, we have already been strengthened by an experienced Category Manager Indirect Procurement. Now we are looking for two new colleagues, each of whom will be responsible for their own discipline. These disciplines are substantively different and each with its own dynamics:
- Global Category Manager Castings & Forgings
You will work with casting suppliers: products manufactured from molten steel, cast in molds. Material knowledge and delivery reliability are central here. - Global Category Manager Constructions, Machinery & Systems
You will focus on complex constructions and machines that are built specifically for us. Think of large welded structures and mechanical systems that meet high technical specifications.
Both roles are new within the team. You will therefore have the space to shape the category from the ground up, with direct visibility of your results. You will become part of an experienced team of 21 procurement specialists, and report directly to the Global Procurement Manager.
What you'll do
As Global Category Manager, you take a strategic key position within the procurement organization of Royal IHC. You develop and implement the procurement strategy for your product category of Constructions, Machinery & Systems or Castings & Forgings and manage a portfolio with a procurement responsibility of up to 35 million euros.
You determine the course: which suppliers fit our technical requirements? How do we organize the collaboration? Where can we reduce costs and increase efficiency? You conclude contracts with (inter)national suppliers and consult at a strategic level with the top of these parties.
Your responsibilities
Your function is strategic in nature, but also substantive and technical. You have a lot of freedom, but also a lot of impact. In broad terms, you are responsible for:
- Developing and implementing the procurement strategy for your product category.
- Selecting, assessing, and managing (inter)national suppliers.
- Conducting contract negotiations with suppliers at a strategic level.
- Determining sourcing models, processes, and integration levels.
- Identifying market developments, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Aligning with internal stakeholders such as engineering, planning, and project teams.
- Acting as a high-level interlocutor - both within and outside the organization.
What makes this role extra interesting
- You build a category from the ground up: your vision and choices are decisive.
- You get a lot of freedom and responsibility, with direct visibility of your impact.
- You work on technical products that are designed and made specifically for us.
- You have an international scope: your suppliers and internal stakeholders are located worldwide.
- You get room to grow, also towards other disciplines within procurement.
You will become part of a professional procurement team of 21 colleagues, including three Category Managers. Each Category Manager is responsible for a unique discipline: Constructions, Machinery & Systems, Castings & Forgings, or Indirect. You report to the Global Procurement Manager.
Travel is part of this position (on average 10-20%), both within the Netherlands and internationally. You must be able to switch and negotiate at all levels, and you know how to stand your ground.
Your profile
You are someone who feels comfortable in a technical-commercial environment. You do not need to be a specialist, but you must be able to understand technical information and translate it into procurement choices. Furthermore, we ask for the following:
Hiring process
Selection procedure
After your application, a CV selection will take place. If your profile matches sufficiently, a short telephone intake with the Corporate Recruiter will follow. If not, you will be informed about this via email. The selection procedure consists of two interview rounds. If everyone is enthusiastic, a telephone conversation will follow to discuss the employment conditions.
