Risk and Compliance plays an essential role within Pels Rijcken. The department is concerned with promoting and monitoring compliance with laws and regulations, (internal) codes of conduct, standards and values, procedures, and risk management. As the office of the State Advocate, we stand in the middle of society, and integrity and governance are therefore not just an internal matter, but are directly connected to our societal position.

Within Pels Rijcken, the Risk and Compliance department forms the second line in the 3-Lines Model. From this independent position, you provide direction to the firm's risk management and ensure an up-to-date and integral risk profile. As Head of Risk and Compliance, you provide direction to the further development of the department and serve as the strategic partner to the board. Together with your team, you ensure that laws and regulations, policy, and culture go hand in hand.

As Head of Risk and Compliance, you hold ultimate responsibility for the Risk and Compliance department within Pels Rijcken. You develop the compliance vision, determine the strategic course, and ensure that laws and regulations, internal standards, and societal developments are translated into an effective and workable compliance policy. Risk management constitutes a core task in this regard: based on the current risk profile, partly fueled by signals from the DPO and external parties, you determine which topics receive priority in the integral monitoring plan. You initiate and direct the department's monitoring activities, conduct audits, and manage the Internal Audit function. Additionally, you are responsible for the PDCA cycle and issue management. You explicitly position the department as a strategic business partner for the organization, including through an active contribution to the digital transformation team and by providing support in optimizing processes. You move effortlessly in a management environment and are an important advisor on the subject of compliance, integrity, and governance for the board, management, and external regulators.

You lead a team of 3 compliance professionals, in which the foundation is solid and there is room to continue building towards the next phase of professionalization. You stimulate collaboration, coach employees in their development, and create an environment in which quality, ownership, and knowledge sharing are central. In this role, you report directly to the board and you are part of the MT-Operations.
