You will work in a young and ambitious team that loves legal challenges. Although our work is dynamic, the level is high, and we work hard, we look out for one another. We find it important that the atmosphere is good and that we help each other further. In addition to you, many other trainee lawyers and young professionals work in our team, who regularly do fun things together. Moreover, there are various (social) activities where you can get to know your colleagues better across the entire office. Finally, we offer—not unimportantly—good primary and secondary employment conditions, such as a thirteenth month, various home-working facilities, and an attractive pension scheme.
We are looking for a trainee lawyer to strengthen the Innovation, Privacy & Technology (IP&T) section. Within the IP&T section, we work in a multidisciplinary team of lawyers specializing in privacy law, IT law, and IP and media law, on beautiful and often complex cases. Have you (nearly) graduated in a relevant field of law? Then this vacancy offers a wonderful opportunity!
As a trainee lawyer, you will work within our multidisciplinary IPT team. Your focus will lie on privacy law. You will be involved in the many diverse privacy cases that we handle within our team. On one hand, this can involve advising on all kinds of (complex) privacy law questions, often with social impact. Think, for example, of advice on the privacy law aspects of AI applications and the use of algorithms (click here for an example), on the use of biometric access gates within professional football, and on advice regarding the admissibility of the exchange of personal data between (government) organizations. For instance, all the advice you find here regarding legal analyses is provided by us.
What makes us unique, among other things, is that we do not only or primarily advise, but also litigate extensively. Therefore, you can truly develop into a litigation lawyer in the field of privacy law with us. For example, we are involved in various collective actions in privacy law mass tort cases, we conduct many proceedings for our (government) clients regarding the lawfulness of personal data processing and legislation concerning it, and we often defend proceedings regarding the rights of data subjects, such as the right of access and the right to erasure. You can find a number of rulings in recent and illustrative cases here, here, here, here and here.
Because we handle many cases for government clients, you will not only deal with more classical privacy regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation. You will also delve into the specific legislation to which the relevant government client is bound, which further shapes the privacy law scope they possess. This gives working as a privacy law lawyer within our team an extra dimension.
The diversity and complexity of the cases we handle makes this position, all in all, a beautiful challenge for any privacy lawyer.
We find it important that you can continuously develop and quickly become a full participant in our unique advisory and litigation practice. The teams with which we handle cases are small, and you will be a full member of them. There is therefore plenty of room for independence and personal growth. Naturally, you will be well coached and guided by experienced colleagues.
To extra stimulate your personal and professional growth, in addition to the external Professional Training for Lawyers, you will also follow our internal training program alongside other starting trainee lawyers: De Verrijcking. This program, by the way, continues after your trainee lawyer period, so you can continue to develop.
You have a warm interest in privacy law and a broad legal and social interest. You possess excellent command of the Dutch language, both orally and in writing. Furthermore, it is important that you possess good communication skills and are analytical, although there is, of course, plenty of room to further develop your skills with us. We are therefore primarily looking for a trainee lawyer who is inquisitive, proactive, and driven, and who commits themselves with our team to achieving the best result for our clients.
Do you have questions or want to know more? Contact our recruiter Fieke Wolting or Esmée Boekhoudt, or drop by for a cup of coffee and a conversation with one of your potential future colleagues. This way, you can determine if the position is truly right for you. You can also apply directly, of course. Use the button below for that.
We are in the heart of society, where different talents and perspectives contribute to the value we deliver to our clients. Therefore, we strive for inclusion and welcome diversity. There is room for growth, and we work seriously on this every day. We cordially invite applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply with us.
A pre-employment screening is part of the application and selection process.
