Are you (almost) finished with your legal master's degree and do you want to start your career at A&O Shearman? Then we would love to meet you.
Even when there is currently no vacancy open within your preferred practice group, we cordially invite you to apply. We are always interested in ambitious legal talent and offer opportunities to start with us throughout the year.
At A&O Shearman, we combine a strong position in the Dutch market with the strength of a global network. From our office in Amsterdam, we work daily with colleagues all over the world on complex and often cross-border issues for listed and large unlisted companies, financial institutions, governments, and social organizations.
What characterizes us? An open, no-nonsense culture in which collaboration, quality, and personal development are central. We believe that you perform best when you can be yourself and are given the space to grow.
From your first day, you are part of the team. Together with colleagues, you will work on challenging national and international files and will quickly receive your own responsibilities. Under the guidance of experienced lawyers and partners, you will advise and negotiate for clients active in various sectors.
Depending on your interests and ambitions, you can work within various practice groups, including Competition, Corporate, Employment and Benefits, Finance & Real Estate (Commercial Contracting, Environmental & Public Law, Project Finance), International Capital Markets, and Litigation (Arbitration, Corporate and Financial Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Business Integrity & Corporate Crime).
We invest heavily in your development. Through our internal training program, you will work on both your legal knowledge and your professional skills. Additionally, you will follow the training at the Law Firm School.
During the first three years of your trainee lawyer period, you will rotate through different practice groups. This allows you to become acquainted with different areas of law and discover where your talents and interests are best utilized. In this way, you lay a broad foundation for your further career as a lawyer.
Our open and inclusive office culture stimulates ambitious talent, whoever you are. Belong. Excel.
We believe in the power of diverse teams and different perspectives. This enables us to optimally advise our clients, achieve successes, and continue to grow as an organization.
Are you enthusiastic about this opportunity? Please upload your CV, cover letter (including your top three preferred practice groups), unedited transcripts (master's, bachelor's, and high school), and any internship evaluations.
Within three weeks of your application, you will go through the full application process. We start with a selection based on your application documents. When these align well, an assessment follows, through which we would love to get to know you better as a person. The assessment includes, among other things, an aptitude test.
Next, you will have a conversation with HR in which, among other things, your assessment results and motivation are discussed. Finally, you will have two interviews with a total of four partners, in which we will discuss your development, ambitions, and fit with our practice.
With a view to stimulating equal opportunities and limiting unconscious bias, we use Scenario Based Interviewing during our interviews.
