Trainee Lawyer (m/f) - Criminal Defense & Investigations

The practice

Within our Litigation practice, we advise and litigate in complex national and international cases. An important part of this is our Criminal Defense & Investigations practice.

In this practice, you will work on diverse files in the field of financial-economic criminal law and enforcement by the AFM and DNB. Think of fraud, corruption, money laundering, environmental criminal law, sanctions legislation, and internal investigations.

From day one, you are part of the team. You will work directly for (inter)national clients on high-profile and often cross-border cases together with a close-knit team and under the guidance of experienced associates and partners.

Your development

At A&O Shearman, you are given the space to grow and develop yourself. You will follow our Dutch and international internal training program in which you work on both professional and substantive skills. Additionally, you will follow training at the Law Firm School. During the first three years of your training, you will rotate through different practice groups. This allows you to gain experience in both litigation and transactional practice, and to discover more and more where your strengths lie.
You will be given a lot of responsibility, but you will always work closely with experienced lawyers.

Selection procedure

Within two weeks from the moment of application, you will have completed the full application process and we hope to be able to welcome you to the firm. The first step is a selection based on application documents. Should this go well, an assessment follows in which we would like to get to know you as a person as well as possible. An aptitude test is also part of the assessment. If this proceeds well, an HR interview follows in which, among other things, the assessment and your motivation for the firm are discussed. If this is successful, you will have two interviews with a total of four partners regarding your development and the practice.*
