The role

This is why you want to work as a Safety & Service LIST employee at NS

This is a position for people seeking variety and who enjoy working where it is busy. You will be deployed at times and locations where safety requires extra attention, such as during events, matches, and major travel days.

Your work revolves around maintaining an overview, directing people, and acting in the moment. You are in the middle of the bustle, working at different times and throughout the country.

Want to know more about how it works in practice? Then sign up for an online information session and hear from employees themselves how the work looks in practice. An overview of all events can be found here.

What you'll do

You monitor the safety of large groups of travelers, especially during events and peak moments such as a match, concert, or King's Day. You are visibly present, direct passenger flows, and prevent situations from getting out of hand. If that is not enough, you act professionally and decisively.

This is what you will do

  • Supervising stations and trains throughout the Netherlands.
  • Guiding and directing large flows of travelers.
  • Providing service to (often international) travelers.
  • Identifying and preventing unsafe situations.
  • Acting in a de-escalating manner during tension or aggression.
  • Taking enforcement action during violations and emergencies.
  • Searching, drawing up official reports, and using force within your authority.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and emergency services, such as the police.

How you'll work

Your base is Utrecht. From here, you will be deployed nationally, especially during large events and busy moments. You work at varying locations and times, sometimes including a hotel overnight stay.

The focus on crowd control within the Netherlands gives you the freedom to discover the entire country during your work. You are part of a close-knit and cohesive team of 28 Safety & Service colleagues and 1 LIST team manager.

A shift always starts with a briefing with your colleagues in which you discuss what is happening during that shift. As a duo, you will head out and ensure that you are visibly working, both at the station and on the train. You may also be deployed to another station if there are emergencies.

Additional information

Training:
If you are hired, you will follow an internal training program of 26 weeks (36 hours per week). You will work in practice at the location under the guidance of a workplace mentor and you will attend lessons at the NS Learning Center in Amersfoort. You will also have workplace assignments and force and self-defense training (RTGB). This allows you to combine professional knowledge with practical experience.

More information about the training program can be found here.

These are the job requirements

You understand that safety begins with communication. You remain calm, even under pressure. You know how to act professionally and respectfully. You always work together with one or more colleagues. The following is important for this position:

Hiring process

Do you already see yourself standing as a Safety & Service employee at the station and on the train? Apply immediately. Within a few minutes, you will receive an automatic application confirmation. Within three working days, you will receive news about your application.

Good to know:

  • At NS, we find everyone unique. You see this in everything we do, and therefore also in our recruitment policy.
  • The application procedure includes, among other things, a background check and requesting a Certificate of Good Conduct with Police Data (VOG-P).
  • With this vacancy, we wish to recruit our new colleague ourselves. This is therefore NOT a call for acquisition.
