The role

  • Supporting the design of a future-proof public organization focused on making social impact.
  • Researching how ministries can optimally deploy public resources.
  • Mapping the (social) impact of proposed policy choices of a ministry.
  • Stimulating cooperation between chain partners in a complex administrative context.

What you'll do

As a senior consultant, you are involved in multiple challenging projects within the public sector. Think of developing, researching and/or calculating the impact of a policy intention for a ministry, or helping executive agencies develop their strategy.

In doing so, you work as independently as possible: you ensure that your (sub)project runs smoothly, coordinate daily with clients and colleagues regarding progress, write analyses and reports, and lead junior colleagues.

If you had to describe your work week with one word, it would be 'variety'. Your Monday starts with a kick-off of a new project with colleagues. Together, you develop a project approach and roll out the first actions. Tuesday morning is dedicated to another client: you have prepared and will facilitate a tight working session. You ask a junior colleague to work out the outcomes of the session, which you will review later in the day. On Wednesday, you turn that work into a short summary that you share with the client. After that, you have an update with the project team. You brief everyone and maintain oversight of all ongoing activities. At the end of the day, you have time to analyze data from the Dutch housing market for another project. On Thursday, you spend the entire day at a client's location for coordination and progress meetings. In between, you have a call with colleagues about the team weekend that you are helping to organize.

On Friday, you are in the office with the entire team. On that day, you have catch-up moments with colleagues you haven't spoken to as much lately, you have lunch with the team, and you cross as many things as possible off your to-do list. At five o'clock, you start your weekend with a cozy Friday afternoon drink.

''The beautiful thing about working in the public sector team is that you work on projects that truly matter, in a dynamic organization.'' - Jim, senior consultant KPMG S&O Public Sector Team

The world around us does not stand still: with the development of new technologies and the emergence of new social issues, the government is increasingly faced with complex challenges. Whether it concerns the energy transition, creating a customer-oriented government, the nitrogen crisis, or livelihood security. The public sector team at KPMG works daily on major issues that affect all Dutch citizens. Think of developing policy with a ministry, guiding transformation processes in an executive agency, or improving the business operations of a housing association.

As part of the public sector team, you will enter a challenging environment in which you work together with colleagues on complex tasks where you devise smart solutions for public clients. Together with the team, which consists of nearly 40 driven advisors with various backgrounds, you strive to make a positive contribution to the public sector every day.
