The role

You operate at the intersection of people, data, and strategy, helping organizations navigate complex trajectories ranging from pre-deal analyses and carve-outs to post-deal implementation. Key issues you will deal with include:

Whether it is pre-, during, or post-deal: as an Associate People in M&A, you use your HR expertise to help make deals a success and realize sustainable impact on the organization.

Within KPMG Strategy, we advise private equity firms and corporates on acquisitions, investments, and broader strategic issues. In acquisitions, we help assess the attractiveness of targets, and beyond that, we support themes such as market entry and strategy development. Due to the direct impact of our projects, you will often work closely with investment directors and senior management.

In this role, you advise clients, analyze HR-related data, and perform HR due diligence to map out opportunities and risks. Additionally, you design future-proof HR strategies and integration plans that prepare organizations for growth after a transaction.

Collaboration makes the difference: you form the connecting link between HR and Finance. Together with colleagues within KPMG Strategy and Transaction Services, you identify cost synergies and provide clients with insight into the financial impact of their HR choices. Additionally, you guide organizations through complex reorganizations, support the harmonization of employment conditions, and conduct strategic negotiations with trade unions and works councils.

“I believe that successful deals are not only driven by numbers, but above all by people. I help clients navigate M&A challenges by assessing workforce-related risks and translating employee data and ways of working into strategic recommendations during HR due diligence, integrations, and separations.” - Nando Piree (Executive - People in M&A, KPMG Strategy)

What you'll do

  • What role do HR and organizational factors play in the valuation and positioning of a company within a deal environment?

  • How do workforce risks and opportunities influence the outcome of a deal, and how can these be quantified?

  • Which HR data and analyses provide the most relevant insights into the performance and future potential of an organization?

  • How do you translate a merger or acquisition into a well-functioning organization in which people, culture, and structure are in balance?

  • Where do the most important opportunities for value creation lie from a people perspective, and how do you make them concrete and achievable? You will be challenged to combine analytical thinking with a strong focus on people, translating complex data into clear and applicable insights for our clients.
