Step aboard your next job: Ground Engineer with the Engine Change Team at KLM! Together with a close-knit, specialized team, you will change the engines of our Boeing 777 and 787 fleets: the GE90 and the GEnx. With your technical knowledge, experience, and sense of responsibility, you ensure that an aircraft can safely return to the network on time after an engine change.
Are you an experienced Ground Engineer with an AML B1? Or are you an Aircraft Mechanic possessing an AML B1 and at least five years of relevant experience? Then a great next step awaits you here.
As a Ground Engineer in the Engine Change Team, you are responsible for the complete engine change: from removing the old engine to the test run and releasing the aircraft. The team performs approximately 40 engine changes per year, both planned and unplanned. No change is the same: engines are delivered in different configurations and along the way, you will encounter findings that you resolve together with Engineering and Engine Services.
Furthermore:
• you remove and install engines on the Boeing 777 (GE90) and 787 (GEnx) and provide technical guidance for these activities;
• you ensure that work is carried out according to the applicable specifications and safety regulations;
• you perform the test run and the associated checks;
• you release the aircraft with a Certificate of Release to Service;
• you assist where necessary when there is no engine change in progress;
• you contribute ideas for improving the engine change process and contribute to the development of your team.
You will join the Engine Change Team (MWT), part of the Maintenance Support Unit within Airframe at Engineering & Maintenance. The team has existed since 2015 and is fully specialized in engine changes. You will work in H11 at Schiphol-Oost. During a change, you coordinate with Engine Services, Engineering, planning, and work preparation.
You take responsibility and do not wait when you see that something can be done better or smarter. You dare to make decisions and speak up to others when necessary. You keep a cool head when the planning is under pressure and seek a solution together with colleagues. In doing so, you do not lose sight of the collective goal and you can easily switch between different people, from colleagues in the hangar to engineers, planners, and the engine shop.
Furthermore:
• you are a ground engineer or aircraft mechanic with at least 5 years of demonstrable relevant experience;
• you possess an AML B1 with type rating for the Boeing 777 and 787;
• you have an affinity with engines; experience with engine changes or with the GE90 or GEnx is a plus;
• you have a good command of technical English, both spoken and written;
• you have knowledge of and experience in applying safety regulations, including the Safety Management System;
• you are willing to take responsibility, show initiative, and achieve results together with your team.
Then do not wait any longer, and apply for the 'final boarding call' on 31-12-2026! You do not need to write a motivation letter; during your online application, we will ask you some targeted questions. Your application procedure consists of two interviews and a security investigation. You will receive word from us within two weeks after the closing date of the vacancy.
Did you know that according to research, women are less likely to apply than men if they do not meet all the job requirements? A pity. Because 'the perfect candidate' is, in our view, a myth. So, do you have the drive to still grow in some aspects of this role? We look forward to your application.
To be able to perform this position, you need a Schiphol pass that gives you access to the secure area at Schiphol-Oost. This can be a grey pass, or an orange one with a black border. When necessary, we will apply for this for you. If this pass is not granted to you—for whatever reason—you unfortunately cannot start in this position.
A file check (for ex-KLM employees) and/or a reference check may form part of the application procedure. By applying for this vacancy, you give permission for these checks.
If you want to know more about the position, please contact the hiring manager. Call or email the recruiter for questions about the application procedure. In both cases, do not forget to mention the vacancy number: #20575. At KLM, we believe in the power of diversity. Do you want to read more about this topic? View our statement.
