The role

As a music therapist at Stichting Humanitas, you use music purposefully to contribute to the well-being, quality of life, and functioning of clients. You work with various target groups, both intramural and extramural, including psychogeriatrics, somatics, and geriatric rehabilitation.

You create treatment plans and carry out individual and group treatments. In doing so, you align with the client's personal situation, life history, and possibilities. Through music, you work on things such as emotion regulation, communication, contact, and the reduction of misunderstood behavior.

In addition to treatment, you have an important consultative role. You advise and coach healthcare professionals regarding misunderstood behavior, communication problems, and complex situations. You share your knowledge about the therapeutic use of music and translate this into practical applications in daily care.

Additionally, you contribute ideas regarding the development of music therapeutic interventions and treatment methodologies and contribute to knowledge development, innovation, and quality improvement within the treatment service.

What you'll do

No two days are the same. Within your 12 hours per week, you alternate individual treatments and group sessions with consultation, observation, reporting, and coaching of care teams.

For example, you can:

  • Use music to make contact, promote relaxation, or reduce restlessness.

  • Guide clients in emotion regulation, communication, and social interaction.

  • Observe and analyze behavior and translate your findings into appropriate interventions.

  • Advise and coach care teams regarding misunderstood behavior.

  • Let colleagues experience how music can be used therapeutically in daily care.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary consultation and evaluate treatment plans.

  • Contribute ideas regarding new treatment methodologies, knowledge development, and innovation.

You work closely with clients, loved ones, and colleagues from care and treatment. In this way, you connect your professional knowledge with daily practice and contribute to a pleasant living environment and person-centered care.
