Do you want to work in a specialized hospital where you combine complex care with personal attention, technology, and innovation? At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, you help patients during often stressful moments in their treatment process, while simultaneously contributing to groundbreaking cancer research. Due to the great diversity of oncological specialties, you will continue to develop yourself and no two days are the same.
From colonoscopies to minor surgical procedures: your work is varied and you switch quickly between different procedures and patients. Usually, you work in the outpatient department of our Research and Treatment Center. On average, once a week you work a shift at the Center for Early Diagnosis, where you help to detect cancer as early as possible. This allows the treatment to be less invasive and increases the chance of cure. What makes our department special? We truly take time for our patients. Thanks to our small-scale working environment, you get to know patients and can guide them with attention before, during, and after an examination or treatment. Precisely at moments when they experience tension or uncertainty, you make the difference.
As an endoscopy nurse:
You not only assist with pulmonary and gastroenterology (MDL) examinations and treatments, but also, for example, with urology and gynecology. You also assist with procedures, such as the removal of a melanoma.
You admit patients and provide aftercare in our recovery room.
You independently conduct telephone consultation hours.
Thanks to our small-scale environment, you have plenty of time for your patients. Even though an examination or treatment is often stressful for them, you ensure a pleasant experience through your attention.
You contribute to cancer research, including by providing biopsies and other material. You can regularly attend clinical lessons, for example on immunotherapy. And occasionally, you get the opportunity to attend a congress abroad.
You have control over your own development. At the AVL, you are given the space to further shape your profession. Do you want to deepen your knowledge in bladder ailments, skin and light therapy, new endoscopic techniques, or oncological care?
You work in the OBC and CVV departments, which means variety in patient groups and examinations within one field.
We support you with training, coaching, and a personal development budget of € 1,000 per year.
Whether you want to work one or two fixed days alongside other commitments or specifically want to work almost full-time: within a contract size of 8 to 36 hours per week, we would like to look together at what suits you.
Your day shifts are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. In addition, you participate in on-call shifts. These are limited and widely distributed within the team: on average, this involves one on-call weekend and approximately five on-call shifts per ten weeks. For the planning, you and your colleagues use a rotation system, where you indicate yourself when you can take on a shift. If it doesn't work out one time? Then it is usually possible to swap with a colleague.
Helping patients as best as possible and putting them at ease: this is what you commit to, both independently and together with colleagues. Even when emergencies arise alongside your planned work. You see the substantive diversity as a challenge, in which your ability to switch quickly serves you well. Additionally, you find it important to balance substantive matters with relaxed conversation, both with colleagues and with patients.
Furthermore, you have:
A diploma as an endoscopy nurse. No diploma? Then view the vacancy for training opportunities.
Some insight into the technical operation of (endoscopic) devices. You think logically about what to do if equipment does not (immediately) work.
We are curious about your talent. Will you make the difference in the world of cancer? Apply quickly via the application button! If we find a suitable candidate, we will close the vacancy.
For more information about the position, you can contact Denise Damm, team leader Research and Treatment Center, via 020-5127425 or d.damm@nki.nl. For questions about the application procedure, you can contact Marjolein van Bodegom, senior recruiter, via 06-41596757 or m.v.bodegom@nki.nl.
You will join a team of about 25 dedicated nurses. Every single one of us is ready to help you if you need assistance. Furthermore, you work closely with, among others, physicians, sedation specialists, nurse practitioners, laboratory technicians, and dietitians.
The lines are short, allowing you to work efficiently and feel the space to give your opinion. And it might sound strange, but the atmosphere is lighthearted. Even though we deal with a heavy disease daily, there is time for socializing during breaks and we laugh together.
