The role

At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, we work as one team towards an ambitious mission: to ensure cancer is no longer a fatal disease. Working at the AVL means working at a renowned research institute and in a hospital that enjoys national recognition. What makes us truly special is the commitment and passion of all our employees and volunteers. This mentality can be found in all layers of the organization and translates into a human approach. This is how we collectively determine what makes the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek unique.

The Radiotherapy (RT) department of the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (AVL) is a national and international leader in the treatment of cancer. Annually, we treat approximately 6,000 patients using the latest technology, including 8 linear accelerators (2 of which are in Hoofddorp), a Gamma Knife, and two MR-Linacs. The hospital possesses the most advanced imaging techniques, including a Whole Body PET CT.

The department is organized multidisciplinarily with approximately 250 FTE: radiation therapists, clinical physicists, laboratory technicians, researchers, technicians, and support staff. The Radiotherapy department consists of 33 radiation therapists, 6 Physician Assistants (PAs), 6 resident physicians (AIOS), and 2 PA students. The Radiotherapy department is part of the Imaging Cluster, together with Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and General Clinical Physics.

Your role

We are looking for a radiation oncologist with demonstrable experience in scientific research and innovation and a strong research profile (0.4 FTE). Clinical experience as a staff member in the urological area of focus is preferred, but not required.

Why the AVL?

At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, we all commit to the same goal: the best care for every patient and every type of cancer. That is no small feat. But not impossible. Here, science and care work together on innovation. Time and again, we find new ways that help people with cancer worldwide. Here we save lives, we win time and quality.

Requirements

  • You are an enthusiastic and ambitious radiation oncologist with demonstrable clinical experience as a staff member within radiotherapy. Experience within the uro-oncology area of focus is preferred.

  • You have a strong academic and scientific profile, with demonstrable experience in initiating, setting up, and conducting clinical and/or translational scientific research. You are able to translate research results into concrete improvements in clinical practice.

  • You have a clear ambition to further expand scientific research and innovation and see an active role for yourself within the Radiotherapy department of the AVL. You possess the ability to independently develop research lines, initiate external and internal collaborations, and, where possible, acquire research grants and other funding.

  • You have demonstrable experience with innovation within radiotherapy, for example in the field of MRI-guided and adaptive radiotherapy, imaging, new treatment strategies, Artificial Intelligence, or personalized treatment.

  • You are a driven and connecting colleague who enjoys collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and with clinical, physical, and translational research groups. You actively contribute to the further development of radiotherapy and to the academic profiling of the department.

  • You are ambitious in developing your own recognizable research line, building your own research group, and have the potential to play an active role nationally and internationally.

You stand for the values of the AVL – excellent, groundbreaking, committed, and together – and actively promote them.

What do we offer you?

The basis for your employment conditions is in accordance with the AMS regulation (CAO hospitals). You will receive from us:

  • A permanent contract for 36-45 hours per week;

  • A gross monthly salary appropriate to your years of experience in accordance with the AMS regulation;

  • An annual 8% holiday allowance and 30 vacation days on a full-time basis;

  • A travel allowance of € 0.23 per km;

  • Free parking at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, but with our bicycle scheme and discounts on public transport, we also make it attractive for you to leave the car behind;

  • A great opportunity in a specialized hospital where you can also continue to learn and grow if you wish: the AVL Academy offers innovative and inspiring education in the field of oncological expertise, skills, and personal development;

  • Opportunities to exercise at our Fit Boutiqs;

  • An active staff association and Young AVL: associations that organize sporting, cultural, and creative activities and events;

  • An employer contribution of 50% towards your pension at Pensioenfonds Zorg & Welzijn and collective discounts with health insurers IZZ, Zorg en Zekerheid, and Zilveren Kruis.
