This is a pronounced senior position in which you provide direction. You hold ultimate responsibility for the integral tender calculation, determine the pricing strategy for large infrastructure tenders, and manage colleagues and specialists. With your experience, you sit at the table where strategic and contractual choices are made and have a direct influence on the success of complex, integral projects.
Your job
As a Senior Cost Engineer at KWS @vice, you are the central pivot in acquiring large integral infrastructure projects. You oversee the whole and translate complex designs, contracts, requirement analyses, schedules, and risks into a clear, explainable, and realistic cost estimate. With your experience and market knowledge, you are ultimately responsible for the integral coordination and consistency between the various discipline budgets and lead the team and the steering group in sharp, well-substantiated financial choices that contribute to a winning tender strategy.
You work on large, multidisciplinary projects within the full breadth of civil engineering: from road construction and maintenance to complex, integral area developments. Projects that we are currently executing include the Mobility and Infrastructure Test Center (MITC) Marknesse, container terminal RWG on the 2nd Maasvlakte, renewal of 3 viaducts on the A44, Haarlem public transport hub, and Zuidasdok tunnels A10. From the first tender ideas to the handover and setup of all processes in realization, you have influence. You determine the integral cost price by managing direct costs, supplied prices, quantities, and procurement, and in doing so, you manage the discipline estimators from the region and sister companies. Additionally, you prepare the indirect costs such as staff, design, and insurance yourself. You also take the lead in preparing the risk dossier, Monte Carlo analyses, cash flows, risk analyses, and indexations.
Within large tender teams, you have a directing role and are part of the tender's core team. You are explicitly asked for your analysis of the contract and the associated risks. You also contribute ideas regarding manufacturability, opportunities, and smart, sustainable, and cost-efficient solutions. In this, you work intensively with tender managers, designers, and project control specialists and know how to make scenarios sharply visible to support substantiated choices.
Outside of tenders, you have impact. You prepare estimates for projects that will come to market in the future and guide cost price challenges in other tenders or within two-phase contracts and construction teams. You also act as a sparring partner for the branches dealing with large regional tenders. From your seniority, you know how to translate the SSK methodology into the calculation methodologies of KWS, whereby you challenge us to become a better version of ourselves every time. And together with your fellow cost experts, you are responsible for constantly improving and sharpening the cost price database in which we translate lessons learned from execution projects into new tenders.
In addition to your substantive role, you are a sparring partner and a point of contact for colleagues from all branches. You share knowledge, coach less experienced cost engineers and estimators, and actively contribute to the further professionalization of cost engineering within KWS. Because you work for KWS @vice, the national tender bureau of KWS where all knowledge is pooled, we learn from and with each other at an accelerated pace.
Your qualities
You have an entrepreneurial, result-oriented, critical, and proactive attitude and enjoy working together. Additionally, you are analytically strong and structured and feel ultimately responsible for the quality and substantiation of the integral cost price. With your experience, you know how to sharply distinguish between main and secondary matters and do not shy away from conversation. You switch effortlessly between content and collaboration and know how to convey complex issues clearly and convincingly. It is precisely this combination that makes you a strong and reliable senior within the tender and advisory team. Furthermore;
