The role

As a residential support worker, you guide and support adult clients using individual support plans. You are co-responsible for the implementation of these plans and play an important signaling role regarding the psychological well-being of residents. You stimulate the self-reliance and stability of clients, with the goal that they can participate in life in their living environment as independently as possible. You visit clients individually in their own apartments and offer practical support with daily activities where necessary, such as grocery shopping, exercising, day activities, cooking, and cleaning the home. You encourage clients to find solutions that suit their specific situation and to apply these sustainably. The bond of trust you build with clients forms the basis of your work. Additionally, you devise and facilitate suitable activities together with your colleagues. For example, there is a coffee drop-in twice a day for the entire location, and there are sports activities, evening walks, a creative evening, and a game night, among others. You also maintain client files, register relevant information, and perform associated administrative tasks.

The guidance of clients is the priority, but there is plenty of room for personal initiative and for shaping the work together with the team. The diversity of contacts and tasks makes this internship dynamic and educational.

Important to know

  • As an intern, you grow towards performing the tasks and duties of a residential support worker during your internship. You always do this under the supervision and responsibility of your practical supervisor and teammates. You never work a shift alone, but you can perform tasks independently within a shift.

Your workplace

As a training house, we guide and support approximately 20 (young) adults with ASD in their development towards independence, self-reliance, and personal autonomy. The goal is that they can eventually transition to a living situation with as little support as possible and can participate in society as independently as possible. The (young) adults stay with us for an average of two to three years before transitioning to a suitable living location.

We offer customized support and work from a position of equality and trust in the developmental possibilities of our residents. The autism team is fully in development. Driven by commitment and knowledge of autism, we build a relationship of trust with patience and offer the structure from which residents can work on their personal growth. During your internship, you will work irregular shifts.
