Every day, thousands of containers, ships, and companies move through Dutch ports. Behind this logistical operation runs a digital platform that processes millions of messages and transactions. As a Senior Software Engineer at Portbase, you design and build systems that make this chain smarter, faster, and more reliable.

You work on real-time data platforms used daily by thousands of logistical parties. Together with a Scrum team, you develop scalable Java solutions in a modern AWS cloud environment, working with Domain-Driven Design, Event Sourcing, and an event-driven microservices architecture.

In addition to developing, you are a technical sparring partner within the team. You contribute ideas regarding architecture, take technical leadership where necessary, and actively contribute to the quality of software, processes, and the way of collaborating.

• Designing, building, and deploying scalable Java solutions within a cloud-native AWS environment.

• Developing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and Infrastructure as Code.

A day in the life of a Software Developer in Team Import

08:45 - On most days, we work from home. I grab a cup of coffee and go to my home workspace, where I open my laptop.

09:00 - I check the sprint board in Jira and continue with the user story I was working on, or I start on the highest priority story still in the To Do column.

10:00 - We have our daily stand-up, in which we share our progress. After that, I do some pair programming with a teammate.

10:15 - I continue with the story: writing code, creating unit tests and integration tests, and potentially making changes to the infrastructure.

12:00 - Lunchtime. When we are at the office, we lunch together as a team.

13:30 - We have a short stand-up to check if all stories are proceeding according to plan and if anyone needs help.

14:00 - We deploy everything to our test environment and perform a short smoke test ourselves.

15:00 - I ask a colleague to test the changes.

15:30 - If necessary, I resolve any findings or errors that arise during testing.

16:00 - Once testing is completed and the changes are approved, we merge the changes, deploy them to production, and check if everything works as expected. Story completed!

17:00 - I close my laptop and end my workday.
