Skills
Nice to have
This job advert was originally written in Dutch.
The role
- You have a direct influence on train traffic in your region
- You work in a dynamic environment where you learn quickly
- You combine planning, puzzling, consulting, and deciding
- You get a lot of responsibility and good training
- You work in the heart of NS operations, close to Amsterdam Central
What you'll do
As a Logistics Coordinator, you work at the Regional Control Centre (RBC) in Amsterdam. There, together with colleagues, you manage the deployment of trains. Does something go wrong, such as a malfunction or delay? Then you immediately look at what is needed to keep the impact as small as possible.
You work with multiple screens simultaneously and maintain a continuous overview. Much contact with colleagues takes place by telephone. You ensure that information quickly reaches the right place and that actions are aligned.
Your tasks include
- Identifying and solving problems with the deployment of train sets (rolling stock).
- Determining whether rolling stock is deployable.
- Adjusting the deployment of rolling stock.
- Communicating changes in the rolling stock plan.
- Monitoring that trains run according to the logistics plan.
An average day as a Logistics Coordinator:
You begin your shift with a handover from a colleague. Everything seems quiet, until later in the morning a defective train breaks down in your region. As a result, movements get stuck and pressure on the tracks quickly builds up.
You map out the situation, make a plan, and coordinate with colleagues from adjustment and execution. You communicate with a shunting driver, think ahead, and prevent the problem from getting larger. As soon as calm returns, you ensure the schedule is correct again and that trains still go to cleaning or maintenance.
Where you will work
You work at the Regional Control Centre, in the VLTC building, near Amsterdam Central Station. Per shift, you work together with approximately 15 colleagues on the floor. So, you are never standing alone.
It is an operational environment that runs 24 hours a day. Therefore, you work in an early, late, and night shift, also on weekends and public holidays. Flexibility regarding working irregular hours is therefore a requirement. In the video below, colleague Andrea explains what working irregular hours means for a logistics coordinator.
The shifts are:
06:55 to 15:00
14:44 to 23:00
22:55 to 07:00
The training to become a logistics coordinator lasts approximately 12 weeks and consists of on-the-job learning, e-learning, assignments, and simulations. You will receive guidance from an on-site mentor until you are completely ready.
These are the job requirements
As a hub coordinator, you work methodically and continue to work effectively under high time pressure. You are stress-resistant and decisive. Additionally, you establish contact with colleagues easily and are open to giving and receiving feedback. Furthermore, it is important that you are inquisitive and open to new ideas and situations.
You don't need to be able to do everything already, but you do love overview, quick switching, and collaboration. You remain calm when the pressure increases and dare to make decisions.
- You work in a structured manner
- You stay sharp under time pressure
- You communicate easily and clearly
- You are open to feedback and new situations
- You enjoy planning and solving problems
- You can work well with systems and multiple screens
In addition, you have:
- mbo-4 work and thinking level
- Affinity with logistics, planning, or operational processes
- Experience with or interest in screen-based work and ICT systems
- A good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written
Experience with planning or logistics processes is a plus, but not a must.
