Requirements

What we're looking for

You have 3 to 6 years of production experience as a data engineer. You have already seen the pitfalls and, without a platform team behind you, deliver a tested, monitored solution.

You are proactive and identify for yourself what needs improvement. You are in your element in a scale-up: you can handle some chaos and you bring structure. You explain trade-offs clearly to non-technical colleagues.

You make analytics engineers and analysts productive. If they cannot find, understand, or trust a table, or if they get stuck on tooling or access, then the work is not finished.

  • Databricks in production (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog), preferably on Azure.

  • In-depth experience with dbt (Cloud) in production: Jinja, automated testing, deployment pipelines, and environments.

  • Experience setting up and structuring a Git workflow: branching strategy, pull requests, and code review.

  • Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code.

  • Snowflake or a similar warehouse.

  • Python and ingestion via Fivetran or custom connectors.

  • Data tests as standard, an eye for cloud costs.

  • English at a professional level, both written and verbal.

  • Willing to undergo a Dutch security screening (VGB).

Nice to have: a warehouse migration, Looker or data contracts, regulated or public environments, B2B SaaS.

Education & certifications

Snowflake (current warehouse), Databricks (Azure), Fivetran, dbt, GitHub, Metabase, Looker.

Pay & benefits

What you'll get

  • Hybrid working: 3 days in the office in the Houthavens, 2 days at home.

  • 25 vacation days plus a free day on your birthday.

  • 3% pension via a.s.r., fully paid by Studytube.

  • € 1,000 learning budget per year, half of which is for wellbeing or your home workspace.

  • LevelUp Academy, Studygym, MacBook Air, and a € 10 phone allowance.

  • Nice lunches for a small contribution, quarterly outings, and an annual company party.

The role

Studytube makes professional development accessible. Behind the platform lies a growing stream of learning data. This must truly help customers, the business, and the AI features we build move forward. For this, we are looking for a Data Engineer to own the data layer.

What you'll do

  • You are the owner of the Snowflake platform: roles and permissions, warehouse sizing and provisioning, tasks, and costs.

  • You manage GitHub for the data platform: branches, environments, and automation with GitHub Actions.

  • You will take over Databricks, set up for a high-security environment, from an external party and prepare the migration from Snowflake to Databricks, planned for next year.

  • You build pipelines that are incremental, idempotent, tested, and documented, and unlock sources via Fivetran or custom connectors.

  • You ensure dbt Cloud runs reliably: dependencies, scheduling, and failure handling.

  • You monitor freshness, volume, and schema drift, and search for the root cause when something breaks.

  • You clean up the architecture, make the platform scalable, and build GDPR-aware: access, retention, and deletion are built into the design.

  • You lay the foundation for metrics that sales, marketing, and product steer by, instead of manual Excels.

Stack

  • A competitive salary and the space to establish data engineering at Studytube.

In their own words

About the company & team

You will join a small data team within Product & Tech and report to the Head of Engineering. Your work serves two branches. Business: reports for commerce, management, and investors. Product: the insights customers see in the platform, such as progress and budget. Colleagues build the dashboards; you ensure the underlying data is correct and evolves with the product.

You will work daily with a business analyst and a product analyst, who also work with Looker and dbt. Another analyst will be joining. An experienced data engineer joins one day per week, and a Data Lead is in the planning stages.

Studytube is the all-in-one learning platform for more than 600 organizations, including Bol.com, a.s.r., CZ, Manpower, and VolkerWessels. With 200+ colleagues, we want to become the number 1 platform for professional development in Europe. The data layer is currently the bottleneck. Whoever fixes this makes the ambitions for AI and customer value possible.
