The role

You won't step into an environment where everything has already been thought out. Together with the other Data Engineers, you will determine how we collect, process, model, and make data available. You will be given the space to make technical choices and will see the impact of your work within the organization.

At Beter Bed Holding, we work every day toward one goal: helping people sleep better. To constantly make better choices in that regard, we need reliable data. Data that helps us better understand customers, set up processes more intelligently, and recognize opportunities faster. With your work, you will lay a solid foundation for this.

What you'll do

As a Data Engineer, you will work within the Data & Analytics team on designing, building, and improving our data platform.

Your responsibilities include, among other things:

  • Contributing to the migration from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric.
  • Developing and managing reliable data pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
  • Designing data models for analytics, reporting, and Power BI.
  • Translating data models into clear and usable semantic models.
  • Improving data quality, governance, performance, and monitoring.
  • Automating and standardizing development and management processes with CI/CD and version control.
  • Collaborating with Data Engineers, analysts, and other colleagues within the organization.
  • Translating questions from the business into practical and scalable data solutions.

You look beyond just the technical question. You ask follow-up questions, think critically, and do not automatically choose the most complex solution. For us, a well-working and manageable solution has more value than technology for the sake of technology.

Why this position is interesting

You will work in-house on a data platform that is in full development. As a result, you will remain involved in what you build and see how the platform continues to evolve.

You won't just be busy maintaining existing pipelines. You will help lay a new foundation, contribute ideas regarding standards, and ensure that the platform remains reliable and manageable in the long term.

In addition, you will work with data from various parts of our organization, such as our stores, e-commerce, logistics, wholesale, and B2B.

What do you bring?

We are looking for someone who is highly skilled in the profession and likes to take responsibility for what they build.

Experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or in a similar role.

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
  • Experience with designing and building data platforms and data pipelines.
  • Good knowledge of SQL and Python.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and semantic models in Power BI.
  • Experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and version control.
  • HBO or WO working and thinking level.
  • The ability to clearly explain technical choices to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • An independent way of working, in which you also actively seek out collaboration.

Experience with Microsoft Fabric is a clear plus. Do you mainly have a lot of experience with Azure Synapse or another modern cloud data platform and do you want to further develop yourself in Fabric? Then we would also love to get in touch with you.
