The role

Have you recently graduated and do you want to apply your knowledge to the water safety of the Netherlands? As a Junior Hydraulic Engineering Advisor at Fugro, you will contribute to complex and socially relevant projects from day one. With intensive guidance from experienced specialists, you will grow step by step into an independent and versatile advisor. You will be given the space to think along about improvements and to introduce new ideas.

What makes this position unique is that you do not only prepare advice, but also collaborate with the specialists who perform the ground investigation, monitoring, and analyses. As a result, you gain insight into the entire geotechnical chain.

Innovation plays an important role within our work. We develop and implement new techniques, such as automated calculation tools, innovative measurement methods, and our own research instruments, including the patented Aquisense sounding and erosion tests. You will be involved in dike reinforcement projects in all phases: from safety assessments and design requirements to execution and realization. Our department is currently involved in leading water safety projects such as the reinforcement of the city dikes near Zwolle, the self-closing barrier near Arcen, and area developments along the Waal, Lek, and Maas.

You will join a team of approximately 25 enthusiastic advisors, specialists, and project leaders. Together, we combine in-depth professional knowledge and technology to make a social impact. Additionally, you will work directly with clients and experts from various disciplines.

At Fugro, you will receive plenty of opportunities to further develop yourself through guidance, training, and career progression into roles such as senior advisor, project leader, or design leader. Your location is Utrecht or Groningen, but you will also regularly be present at project sites.

What you'll do

  • Contributing to dike reinforcement projects in all project phases: from assessment and variant studies to design, execution, and realization;
  • Analyzing and assessing the safety and future-proofing of flood defenses, with attention to stability, strength, and manageability;
  • Supporting the design and assessment of dikes, hydraulic structures, linings, and riprap;
  • Preparing research plans, interpreting geotechnical and geohydrological data, and translating them into practical advice;
  • Contributing to research and innovation projects in the field of water safety, monitoring, and data-driven working;
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams and experienced advisors to solve complex issues.

You do not need to be able to do all of this from day one. We believe in learning in practice: together we will look at where your talents lie and we will offer you the guidance and responsibility that suit your development as an advisor.

What you have to offer

  • You have a passion for water safety and want to use your knowledge to contribute to a safe and future-proof Netherlands;
