(Senior) Associate Competition

Within the Competition practice of DLA Piper Amsterdam, we advise national and international clients on diverse competition law issues, including merger control, investment screening, cartel cases, abuse of dominance, state aid, compliance programs, and investigations by national and international regulators. In doing so, we work intensively with colleagues within the global DLA Piper network, making international aspects an important part of our daily practice.

As an Associate, you will play an important role within challenging and often cross-border files. You will be given significant responsibility, have direct contact with clients, and work closely with colleagues from various jurisdictions. Additionally, you will be given the space to further develop yourself as a specialist, actively contribute to the further growth of the practice, and build a strong internal and external network.

• Assessing notification thresholds for concentration notifications, including multi-jurisdictional analyses
• Preparing and executing concentration notifications with the Authority for Consumers and Markets and the European Commission
• Preparing and executing notifications under investment screening rules (including the Vifo Act) and advising on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) screenings
• Drafting advice on competition law issues, including restrictions of competition, abuse of dominance, and state aid law
• Assessing commercial (horizontal or vertical) agreements for compliance with competition rules
• Supporting clients with information requests and investigations (dawn raids) by regulators
• Representing clients in administrative proceedings against decisions of regulators and in civil proceedings of a competition law nature

You are characterized by:

• 3 to 8 years of experience as a lawyer in a competition law practice
• Able to independently conduct multi-jurisdictional threshold and substantive analyses of concentrations and draft notifications
• Experience in conducting competition law analyses, both in the area of restrictions of competition and abuse of dominance
• Litigation experience (civil or administrative); experience with both is recommended
• Experience in preparing and delivering presentations and (compliance) training is recommended
• Experience with Foreign Direct Investment screening and EU state aid law is recommended
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Excellent command of the English language; command of a second foreign language is recommended
