Role Description:
As a project leader for (electrical) building services within the Sustainable Building Services & Physics (SBS&P) advisory group, you will deal daily with challenging, complex, and innovative building services issues. You will work on drafting strategic advice regarding all integrated building-related installations required for the intended use, appropriate comfort, and the associated regulations and controls. In your role as a building services project leader, you will work in project teams consisting of specialists, engineers, and designers. Within these project teams, in addition to project management, you will also provide advice on, among other things, medium and low voltage installations, lighting, fire protection, detection systems and communication networks, energy generation, and distribution systems. From your role as project leader, you will also oversee the mechanical discipline in relation to, among other things, ventilation, heating, and cooling installations. Due to the objectives of the climate agreement for healthy buildings—designing sustainable gas-free buildings that contribute to the energy transition—you are the important link in the process of making these socially necessary topics a reality.

You will be given a great deal of freedom, responsibility, authority, and support to hold your role at a high level. Within Arcadis, there are many opportunities to further develop yourself through both internal and external education and training toward the role of advisor. The projects have a multidisciplinary character and are both national and international. Sharing knowledge and collaborating with different disciplines is essential to realizing the most well-considered, high-quality, and strategically sustainable solutions for clients.

Take our client Hoogvliet, for example. This supermarket chain wanted new construction of an 80,000 square meter distribution center with a headquarters near Lansingerland. Arcadis was asked for all advisory disciplines and also signed for design and construction management. In total, our team worked on this iconic project for five years. In March 2022, this Arcadis project received the BREEAM Awards 2022 in London for the most sustainable building in the world. The building subsequently achieved a BREEAM Outstanding completion certificate with a very high sustainability score. In doing so, Arcadis provided the insight to the people of Hoogvliet that sustainability does not have to be expensive and adds a great deal of value. It is an extremely complex and versatile building with diverse functions, where we had to maintain more than ten different indoor temperatures within the building. Arcadis went through the design process in one and a half years. All in all, a team of about thirty consultants and engineers was working during this period. In close coordination with our client, Arcadis organized that the project was tendered with a large number of lots with subcontractors and direct supplies. Subsequently, we carried out the Construction Management, whereby we ensured that the contractor also does exactly what is stated in the plans. That was from 2018 through to completion in 2020. Other examples of clients include, for instance, the Rijksvastgoedbedrijf (Renovation of the Binnenhof Second Chamber complex, COA, and defense projects), University of Groningen - new construction of the Feringa Building, projects for Johnson & Johnson, laboratory projects for Utrecht, Delft, and Eindhoven universities, RIVM, etc.

Sustainable Building Services & Physics Advisory Group
Within the SBS&P advisory group, we realize solutions together with clients where we provide answers to the objectives from the climate agreement within building services in the built environment. We do this, for example, by drafting strategic advice regarding: the grid congestion challenge, objectives for healthy buildings, CO2 reduction, the design of sustainable gas-free buildings that contribute to the energy transition, the design of WKO (thermal energy storage) and PV installations, smart building solutions, etc. "Raising the bar every time" is characteristic of the SBS&P advisory group; therefore, the most modern techniques are frequently used, including Virtual Reality applications within the design. You will work in an enthusiastic group of colleagues within the multidisciplinary Sustainable Building Services & Physics advisory group, with representation in the offices in Rotterdam, 's-Hertogenbosch, Zwolle, and Maastricht.
