Technical Lead Transmission and Distribution

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering or energy systems (or equivalent).
• Experience in designing transmission and distribution networks, renewable energy sources, and large infrastructure projects, including multidisciplinary aspects.
•  Extensive experience in designing and executing high-voltage projects (>110 kV) for substations and/or high-voltage lines in the Netherlands.
• Experience with the requirements of Dutch TSOs and DSOs and the Dutch electricity market.
• Demonstrable experience in leading engineering teams and delivering complex energy infrastructure projects.
• Experience on construction sites.
• Thorough knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
• Excellent client contact, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong commitment to safety, quality, and innovation.
• Commercial insight and experience supporting bids, proposals, or business development.
• Fluent in English and Dutch;
• Professional engineering registration or chartered status is a plus.

The Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Engineering team in the UK and Europe offers a wide range of services, ranging from initial concept to energy system analysis, cabling, substations, transmission and distribution infrastructure, system balancing and compensation, protection systems, SCADA, communications, overhead line design for grid modernization, battery storage, and data center projects.

Due to sustained growth across a wide range of projects and clients in the Netherlands, we are looking for a Technical Lead to strengthen our T&D team. As Technical Lead T&D at AECOM Netherlands, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of medium-voltage to high-voltage projects (>110 kV) in the field of electrical systems, substations, grid connections, and high-voltage lines, from concept to completion. Using your strong background in electrical engineering and your project management skills, you will oversee all technical aspects of project execution and ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and safety regulations.

•  Leading the design, engineering, and execution of projects in grid modernization, high-voltage substations, renewable energy, battery storage, and high-voltage lines (>110 kV), from concept to commissioning support.
• Coordinating multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, designers, and external stakeholders, including AECOM's global teams, to ensure seamless project execution.
•  Acting as the technical lead for multidisciplinary design projects, overseeing various disciplines, including primary substations, cables, protection and control, civil works, overhead lines, and environmental aspects.
•  Preparing and reviewing technical specifications, drawings, and documentation in accordance with project and statutory requirements.
•  Overseeing on-site installation and commissioning activities
• • Overseeing network modeling and associated power system studies
• Providing technical guidance and mentorship to project team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• • Overseeing project scheduling, planning, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and deliverables.
• Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout all project phases.
• • Representing AECOM with professionalism and integrity, adhering to ethical standards and the Code of Conduct.
• • Promoting a "Safety by Design" culture while maintaining high technical standards by staying informed of industry best practices and client standards to improve the safety, constructability, and usability of assets.
• • Acting as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities, including engaging with distribution or transmission companies to gain insight into the technical requirements for connection to distribution networks.
• • Supporting the preparation of bids and proposals, including technical input, risk assessment, and cost estimation for T&D projects.
• • Providing support for business development to expand T&D activities

• • Keeping knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in high-voltage transmission and distribution up to date.

• • Performing internal reviews and quality controls of technical drawings and calculations.

• • Promoting the use of digital engineering, automation, data-driven approaches, and AI-based tools.
• • Identifying opportunities to standardize and automate engineering processes to improve quality, efficiency, and consistency.
