Role description:
The Dutch rail sector is in full motion. Due to the introduction of ERTMS, the replacement and renovation of existing track sections, capacity expansion, and further electrification, underground rail infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. Cable systems form the connection between train protection, power supply, telecom, installations, and track design.

As a Medior / Senior Underground Rail Infrastructure Engineer, you will work on these technical interfaces within complex rail projects. You translate design questions into feasible technical solutions, contribute ideas regarding feasibility and quality, and ensure that cable infrastructure connects well with the other systems within the project.

You will work within our Signaling team, where train protection and underground infrastructure are increasingly converging. This makes your work technically varied and substantively relevant: you look beyond just the design and think along about the cohesion between systems, disciplines, and project goals.

Additionally, at Arcadis, you will get the space to work with digital methodologies such as BIM, GIS, Systems Engineering, model-based engineering, and asset information. In this way, you do not just deliver designs, but also contribute to a smarter and future-proof way of rail engineering.

Role responsibilities:
In this role, you are involved in the design and technical elaboration of underground rail infrastructure within complex rail projects. You collaborate with colleagues from various disciplines and ensure that design choices are substantively correct, well-coordinated, and align with the client's requirements. In doing so, you coordinate interfaces with train protection, power supply, telecom, track design, and installations, and translate client requests into practical and technically substantiated solutions.

You apply digital methodologies such as BIM, GIS, and Systems Engineering to better substantiate design choices and strengthen collaboration within projects. Depending on your experience, you will also take on a coaching and advisory role: you guide junior and medior colleagues, monitor the quality of the work, and contribute to knowledge sharing, innovation, quotes, tenders, and the further development of the Underground Rail Infrastructure department.
