Robotic surgery and highly complex oncological operations: as an operating room assistant at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, you will be at the forefront of surgical care. Every day, you will assist in open, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted operations using the DaVinci robot: the most advanced surgical robotic system in the world. Here, you will continue to learn and build the care of tomorrow. And you will come to work in a friendly team that thinks ahead, collaborates, and keeps each other sharp.
Next-level surgery: that is how you could call our procedures. You assist in complex oncological operations and help with the preparation. You work for all our disciplines: general surgery, reconstructive surgery, head and neck surgery, gynecology, and urology. No operation or patient is the same. Every day brings new challenges. You think ahead and ensure that everything runs smoothly. You support the surgeon using the robot during the operation by, for example, tensioning tissues, operating the suction, and providing and removing instruments, needles, and gauze in a timely manner. Additionally, you assist with, among other things, clipping vessels and stapling intestines, always under the surgeon's direction.
In short: A versatile role in which technical insight, precision, and collaboration come together in the dynamics of the operating room.
You work in day shifts (07:30-17:00), intermediate shifts (09:30-19:00), and evening shifts (13:30-23:00), followed by an on-call shift until 07:30. Occasionally, you will have a 12-hour on-call shift on the weekend (07:30-19:30 or 19:30-07:30). The response time is half an hour. Do you live further away? Then we offer an overnight accommodation option.
Curious? Feel free to drop by during our OR Viewing Session to see who we are and how we work.
Training to become a first assistant in robotic surgery: the start of the training to become a first assistant takes place continuously throughout the year. After your induction period, you can join in consultation and develop into a first assistant for robot-assisted procedures. We offer theoretical and practical training, including laparoscopic box training. Upon completion, you will assist the surgeon during DaVinci operations.
Patient-centered care: you have sincere attention for our patients and ensure they feel as comfortable as possible. Good patient care is our top priority.
Room for your ideas: your colleagues are open to improvement suggestions and value your input.
Hypermodern operating department: work with the latest techniques, including 3D navigation surgery and minimally invasive surgery. We have 3 robotic ORs operating daily.
Contributing to scientific research: you are involved in the most advanced treatment methods and work together with researchers on innovations in oncological surgery.
Between 80 and 100 colleagues work in our operating room complex! We have 12 ORs, of which 9 are currently in use. Additionally, there are currently 3 robotic ORs. We also have 2 endosuites and a special OR for peroperative radiotherapy. You will work well with, among others, surgeons, researchers, anesthesia staff, and recovery nurses, who see each other as equals. And although we deal with serious illness every day, the atmosphere is lighthearted. During breaks, there is time for socializing and we laugh together. And if you have experienced something moving? You can always turn to your colleagues, or to our peer support group. Want to know more? Read the story of operating room assistant Maaike or listen to the podcast by colleague Karin.
