Trainee Thermite Welder

Come join VolkerRail and be trained as a thermite welder at dé railway contractor in the Netherlands. Every day is a new adventure; you will visit special locations. Indoors, but especially outdoors!

The railway in the Netherlands consists of miles of rail tracks. Because damage occurs to rails and switch components, we have a Welding Department that professionally performs repairs and construction of the track.

Thermite welding within the railway is a technique to permanently weld rails together on-site using liquid steel created by a chemical reaction (thermite). It is used to create seamless tracks, which ensures less maintenance, less noise, and a more comfortable train ride!

Thermite welding is skilled craftsmanship, that is clear. To maintain the track properly, repair work is a must. Together with the team, you ensure that the Dutch railway network is in top condition. Because you work in a relatively small group, you will be deployed throughout the Netherlands, meaning you will go everywhere and nowhere.

In addition to the guidance of your buddy, you will follow a training program in which you obtain certificates/diplomas and learn to weld professionally according to various techniques such as: thermite, formwork, overlay, and butt welding.

• you possess a B-driver's license;

• you are flexible: night and weekend shifts are no problem for you (naturally with a nice allowance!);

• A one-year contract with the intention to extend to an indefinite period;

• a good salary between € 2,820 and € 3,800 per month, depending on age and (welding) experience;

• no less than 48 days off: 25 vacation days and 23 rostered days off;
